prep.不管;盡管(自己)不愿意;不在乎;雖有 n.侮辱;憎恨;怨恨;輕蔑的拒絕或不承認(rèn)

　　espite用作介詞時(shí)，與 in spite of同義，都表示“盡管”、“雖然”、“不顧”之意

　　放在句首時(shí)，要接成分，成分也就是句子的組成部分，由詞或詞組充當(dāng)。 如：

　　Despite the drought，we expect a good crop. 盡管天旱，豐收依然在望。

　　Despite his advanced years，he is learning to drive. 雖然年事已高，他現(xiàn)在在學(xué)駕駛汽車。

　　1.PREP盡管;雖然You use despite to introduce a fact which makes the other part of the sentence surprising.

　　The National Health Service has visibly deteriorated, despite increased spending...

　　盡管支出在增加，但國民醫(yī)療保健服務(wù)的質(zhì)量卻明顯下降了。

　　Despite a thorough investigation, no trace of Dr Southwell has been found...

　　盡管進(jìn)行了徹底的調(diào)查，還是沒有發(fā)現(xiàn)索思韋爾博士的任何蹤跡。

　　He was obviously distressed despite being unconscious... 雖然他自己未發(fā)覺，但他顯然很憂心。

　　2.PREP不由自主;情不自禁If you do something despite yourself you do it although you did not really intend or expect to.

　　Despite myself, Harry's remarks had caused me to stop and reflect. 哈里的話讓我不由自主地停下來細(xì)想。
