過(guò)去一般時(shí)：過(guò)去一般時(shí)用于表示過(guò)去發(fā)生的動(dòng)作，或者存在過(guò)的狀態(tài)、特征、身份、性質(zhì)等。

　　過(guò)去一般時(shí)常在從句中(特別是在狀語(yǔ)從句中，有時(shí)是在賓語(yǔ)從句中)代替。

　　例如：

　　他回來(lái)時(shí)會(huì)很驚訝的。

　　自然：Hewould be surprised when he came back.

　　別扭：Hewould be surprised when he would come back.

　　在他們離開后，演唱會(huì)只得取消了。

　　自然：Afterthey left,the concert had to be canceled.

　　別扭：Afterthey had left,the concert had to be canceled.

　　她說(shuō)第二天早上她要開會(huì)。

　　She said that she had a meeting the next morning. (均可)

　　She said that she would had a meeting the next morning. (均可)

　　短文寫作(漢譯英)：

　　那是一個(gè)寒冷的冬夜。整個(gè)村莊都很寂靜沒有狗叫沒有嬰兒的哭聲， 也沒有人在外面走動(dòng)。只有一家人的燈還在亮著，其他人家的燈都滅了突然一聲槍響( a gun shot)，打破了全村的寂靜，狗也叫了起來(lái)。

　　參考答案：

　　It was a cold winter night. The whole village was very quiet. No dog barked, no body cried, nobody walked outside. Only the light of one family was on while all the lights of other families were off. All of sudde, a gun shot was heard. It broke the quiet of the whole willage and dogs egan to bark.
