Dialogue 1
Watt1: Since there are other applicants2 on the line, we can't let you know our decision yet until all of them have had their chance to be interviewed.
Ann: Fair enough, I am willing3 to wait until you have come to a decision.
Watt: We will let you know probably next Tuesday. I hope to give you a positive reply.
Ann: Thank you, I will be glad to hear that.
Notes:
Come to a decision,得出結(jié)論,有結(jié)果,相當(dāng)于make a decision.
Dialogue 2
Watt: How long have you been this city?
Jenny: About three months.
Watt: Have you worked as a receptionist4?
Jenny: No, but I think I am a fast learner.
Watt: Well, your English is very good. I have noticed that. But the problem is my receptionist must have local knowledge as well. People call us up not just to order meals. They often ask questions about travel, entertainment5, etc. so I have to say I can't offer you the job.
Jenny: That's all right. Thank you for your time. Good-bye.
Watt: Bye.
Notes:
3. I have to say I can't offer you the job. 這時(shí)候要表現(xiàn)的很大度,thank you for your time,謝謝您花費(fèi)時(shí)間來面試我。
Opening Remarks
Susan: Excuse me. May I see Mr. John Watt1, the personnel manager?
Watt: It's me. What can I do for you?
Susan: I have come at your invitation for an interview. Nice to meet you, Mr. Watt.
Watt: Nice to meet you too. Please sit down.
Susan: Thank you.
Watt: May I have your name?
Susan: My name is Susan Li.
Watt: OK, Miss Li, we have received your letter in answer to our advertisement. I would like to talk with you regarding your qualifications for this position.
Susan: I am very happy that I am qualified2 for an interview.
Notes:
人事經(jīng)理是the personnel manager。Susan開始問:May I see Mr. John Watt, the personnel manager?(我想見人事經(jīng)理。)May I...? It's me. What can I do for you?
2. Susan回答I have come at your invitation for an interview. at one's invitation,在某人的邀請(qǐng)下。例如:He came to my birthday party at my mother's invitation. I'm here for an interview as requested.
May I have your name? We have received your letter in answer to our advertisement. I would like to talk with you regarding your qualifications for this position. We have received your letter and resume, and we thought we would like to ask you to come here for an interview.
4. be qualified for something或者是be qualified to do something,有資格做某事。例如:You're not qualified to be a doctor. It is a great pleasure for me to have this opportunity for interview.
