Joe: Please have a seat. I know our employment officer has already given you information about your employee contract, but I'd like to go over the main details again before signing. First, you'll be getting a monthly salary, with one month paid vacation after 1 year of service. No probation1 is involved.

通常認(rèn)為,求職者在英語面試時(shí),最重要的原則是誠(chéng)實(shí)(honesty),也就是有一說一,有二說二,既不夸大,也不縮小,這樣實(shí)話實(shí)說,往往可以贏得人事經(jīng)理的好感。但是,求職者如果真的按照誠(chéng)實(shí)原則去面試,99%會(huì)失敗。
首先我要聲明,為人處世要誠(chéng)實(shí),這個(gè)原則我是贊同的,沒有異議。但求職者的面試,則屬于一種比較特殊的情況,需要采取一定的談話技巧。比如人事經(jīng)理問你:Why did you leave your last job?(你為什么要辭去以前的工作),如果按照誠(chéng)實(shí)原則,應(yīng)當(dāng)回答:我跟經(jīng)理合不來,他快把我逼瘋啦,我必須離開(請(qǐng)看下面)。但是這樣回答之后,你肯定會(huì)給人事經(jīng)理留下一個(gè)壞印象:這家伙可能是一個(gè)不太合群的人,他既然跟以前的上級(jí)合不來,說不定跟以后的上級(jí)也合不來。
My manager and I could not get along. He was driving me crazy and I needed to leave.
對(duì)于這個(gè)問題,正確的回答方法是:不要提及前任公司、前任經(jīng)理的任何缺點(diǎn),你可以隨便找一個(gè)其它方面的理由,比如公司太遠(yuǎn),上下班不方便等。在面試方面,我個(gè)人認(rèn)為,最重要的一個(gè)原則不是誠(chéng)實(shí),而是適度的恭維(moderate1 flattery),也就是適度地恭維你想應(yīng)聘的那家公司。因此對(duì)于這個(gè)問題,按照恭維原則,應(yīng)當(dāng)回答:以前那家公司太小,沒有什么前途(請(qǐng)看下面),以此恭維應(yīng)聘公司是一家大公司,適合留在這里長(zhǎng)期工作。
It was a small company, not what I wanted in terms of my future.
再比如,人事經(jīng)理問你:Why haven't you found a job by now?(為什么你直到現(xiàn)在還沒有找到工作),如果按照誠(chéng)實(shí)原則,應(yīng)當(dāng)回答:現(xiàn)在找工作太難啦,我看上人家,人家卻看不上我。而按照恭維原則,應(yīng)當(dāng)回答:我對(duì)我以前的工作不太滿意,所以我辭職之后進(jìn)修去了,參加了一些培訓(xùn),讀了一些書,現(xiàn)在我終于知道我應(yīng)當(dāng)去哪里了(請(qǐng)看下面),以此恭維應(yīng)聘公司是一個(gè)有檔次的地方,只有那些知書達(dá)理的人,才會(huì)認(rèn)識(shí)到它的價(jià)值。
I was unhappy in my career and took time out to take some classes and read some books, and now I know where I'm going.
當(dāng)然,這個(gè)問題也可以這樣回答:我對(duì)選擇工作是非常挑剔的,我不想隨便找一個(gè)沒有挑戰(zhàn)性的工作(請(qǐng)看下面),以此恭維應(yīng)聘公司是一個(gè)有挑戰(zhàn)性的地方。
I have been very selective in looking for the right job and I don't want to settle2 for one in which I will find myself unchallenged.
最后,如果人事經(jīng)理問你:What kind of salary are you seeking?(你想要多少薪水),如果按照誠(chéng)實(shí)原則,應(yīng)當(dāng)回答:我想要5000大洋(這種回答是面試的大忌),而按照恭維原則,應(yīng)當(dāng)回答:I'll consider the best offer you can make.(我會(huì)考慮您能提供的最高薪水),以此恭維應(yīng)聘公司有鑒賞力和洞察力,能夠根據(jù)一個(gè)職員的能力和經(jīng)驗(yàn),支付相應(yīng)的報(bào)酬。
