Referring to an English lesson I’ve ever taken, I would like to share one taken in my high school. In order to bridge communication with one of our cooperated school in Australia, my high school just invited a team of Australian teachers to teach us how to learn English.
I still remember, at the very beginning of the English speaking class, the teacher just showed a picture of our mother nature and asked students to describe our own feeling about such harmonious system. Because of being nervous and afraid of making mistakes, no student was willing to open their mouth. Then the teacher asked one to use black-color pen to smear the original painting and said whether these winding black zigzag lines like sewage or garbage. Then to my surprise, we began to talk about our ideas about this painting. During the whole discussion, the teacher never denied anyone’s answer or pointed out grammar mistakes but used constant questions to inspire us to open mouth. Afterwards, he divided the whole class into six groups and required each group to select a represent to collect all teammates’ ideas and make a summary about the threats posed by human beings.
In the end, he made comments on every group’s discussion and told us the main purpose of this oral speaking—to encourage everyone to open mouth and express their own ideas, had been reached, because he knew the most obvious weakness of Chinese students is being afraid of making mistakes, in other words, lacking of confidence. Therefore, what he contributed to do during the whole class was continuous encouragement and guidance.
You know, in China, most teachers especially high school teachers always aim to the college entrance examination and ignore developing students’ capability of practical use of language speaking especially the building-up of confidence which leads we students always neglect the practical use of language use.
Now, I turn to be a teacher and as soon as I think of this English class, I will always know what I should do first to help my students is to build up their confidence and focus more attention to the process of studying not the outcome. So this English class just become a very essential inspiration in my life.

Ok right then, well the English lesson I‘m gonna talk about is the one I had during my primary school, which I guess must have been about ten or eleven years ago by now.
It was the first time that I was given a class by a foreign teacher. At that time,our English teacher introduced an American young guy to us. Out of curiosity, most of us swarmed around him. Then, he had a free talk with us in simple but humorous English. He spoke quite slowly and clearly so that we could follow him well. Meanwhile,he would repeat just in time what students did not understand. Greatly inspired, most of the students took an active part in asking him questions and interacting with him.So the atmosphere was quite alive during the whole class. And... I have to say that through this lesson, we all improve our oral English and the courage to speak another language other than our mother tongue.
When comparing this to most of the classes we had at that time, where we basically just went through the textbook and took notes, it was a thousand times more interesting, and of course, meaningful. Actually, from this lesson, I came to the conclusion that it is not so difficult to learn English if we talk more in it And L also learned that English can act as an interesting and useful tool in communications with foreigners if we’re good at it.

雅思口語練習(xí)過程中的最大問題是什么
中國考生在練習(xí)口語的時候最大的問題是什么呢?
根據(jù)筆者多年的觀察,許多考生學(xué)習(xí)英語多年卻未曾突破,最大的原因不是方法問題而是態(tài)度問題。也就是說,大家一直在找方法,在各種方法之間選擇,最重要的行動卻沒有??忌鷤兛梢韵胂?,我們在學(xué)母語的時候有方法嗎?
筆者自己的口語比一般非英語專業(yè)的學(xué)生好。原因總結(jié)為以下三點,供大家借鑒:
1)大學(xué)時的大量練習(xí)。由于筆者是學(xué)校英語協(xié)會的會長,每周都要為會員組織英語活動,等于變相地在當(dāng)老師。
后來在英國讀教育心理學(xué)才發(fā)現(xiàn)能達(dá)到最好效果的學(xué)習(xí)方式,就是learning by teaching others(教會別人)。很多老師英語不錯,一是底子好,二是一直不斷在用,不斷在想辦法教會別人,所以自然就保持得好。
2)口語練習(xí)是從可以蹦詞、到蹦短語、再到蹦句子,這樣一個從簡單到復(fù)雜的過程,和嬰兒學(xué)習(xí)語言并無兩樣。
能看懂的是被動知識,用說出來的才是語言能力。我們中國的語言教學(xué)最大的問題就是把語言知識等同于語言能力了。語言知識是語言能力的基礎(chǔ),但不是自動等于能力。就好比,你讀了10本游泳的學(xué)術(shù)著作,你對游泳的知識已經(jīng)很豐富了,但你不下水,不去游,你還是一點也不具備游泳的能力。這種情況下掉下水,即便你學(xué)富五車,一樣會被淹死。
3)在缺乏真實語言環(huán)境的境況下,外語口語能力的保持要靠每天的聽力練習(xí)。語言的學(xué)習(xí)聽力要先行。你能聽懂心里起碼不慌。聽的多了,自然就能下意識的講出來,講不出來,就是聽的還不夠多。你能不能說出,是(yes)和不(no)?當(dāng)然可以。其他不行,是因為練習(xí)的量不到位。所以要練就一口漂亮的口語就是這樣,要堅持。
語言是否地道除了表面的語音語調(diào)問題其實更深層的問題是思維的問題。思維的問題是最根本的。經(jīng)常有雅思考生問,范老師,每次我說英語的時候腦袋里總是先想中文,然后再把中文轉(zhuǎn)化成英語,回答時總是很慢,這是我學(xué)習(xí)方法的錯誤還是由于不熟練?
我回復(fù)說用英語思維是學(xué)習(xí)英語最高境界。一門語言你如果習(xí)得成功了,那么用一個成語來講就是“得意忘形”。得到了語言的意思,忘記了語言的形狀。這位同學(xué)講英語的時候腦子里還要過中文,然后解碼成英文,說明對英語這門語言,還沒有習(xí)得成功,還在學(xué)習(xí)之中。
那么怎樣習(xí)得?有沒有靈丹妙藥?
捷徑真的沒有。語言從學(xué)習(xí)(learning)到習(xí)得(acquisition/acquired)中間的這個過程很長。如果是母語大概需要12-24個月,也就是2歲。在這24個月里面,你大概一共要主動、被動地做將近7000個小時的聽力訓(xùn)練。
我們可以算算,考生在考四級聽力、六級聽力、雅思、托福聽力之前做過多少小時的聽力訓(xùn)練?
我的新浪微博曾經(jīng)介紹過一篇10000小時理論的文章。說的是任何一個領(lǐng)域的專家需要至少10000個小時的練習(xí)才能成為這個領(lǐng)域的專家。
要達(dá)到用英語去思維足夠的聽力輸入量和練習(xí)量是第一個基礎(chǔ)因素。除了足夠的練習(xí)量之外如果你不出國,在國內(nèi)你很難真正達(dá)到用英語去思考。因為語言是文化和思維的外衣。考生是吃大米、白面、看馬恩列毛鄧...長大的,咱們的思維和那邊吃牛肉、什么都看的西方人思維是不可能一樣的。
所以,不要為了追求用英語思維而去學(xué)英語。沒意義。至少我達(dá)不到這個水平。我能做到的是和老外聊天輪到我張嘴的時候,我的腦子里不過中文,這算不算用英語思維?我認(rèn)為不算。
總之,雅思口語的高分需要的是堅持練習(xí)。態(tài)度比方法重要。英語這門相對簡單的語言只要堅持去學(xué)了一定會好起來的。
