　　later的用法

　　1. 用作形容詞和副詞 late 的比較級(jí)。如：

　　It’s rather later than I thought. 這比我想的還要晚。

　　He left home later than usual. 他比平常還晚離家。

　　2. 用于一段具體時(shí)間之后，表示從過(guò)去或?qū)?lái)算起的多長(zhǎng)時(shí)間以后，但通常不指從現(xiàn)在算起的多久以后。如：

　　誤：I’ll call again a week later.(可改為…in a week)

　　正：I called again a week later. 一周后我又打了電話。

　　正：I’ll call her on March 5 and will call again a week later. 我將在3月5日給她打個(gè)電話，過(guò)一周后我將再打個(gè)電話。

　　但是later單獨(dú)使用(即不連用具體時(shí)間)，可以表示從現(xiàn)在算起的“以后”(具有泛指意義)。如：

　　Let’s stop now and finish it later. 現(xiàn)在停下來(lái)，以后再完成它。

　　He may be busy, in which case I’ll call later. 他可能忙，如若如此，我以后再來(lái)拜訪。

　　3. 用于 later on，表示“以后”“后來(lái)”，可用于過(guò)去或?qū)?lái)。如：

　　We’ll discuss the matter later on. 我們以后將討論這件事。

　　Later on he realized his mistake. 后來(lái)他認(rèn)識(shí)到了自己的錯(cuò)誤。

　　4. sooner or later 為習(xí)語(yǔ)，意為“遲早”，注意其詞序不能倒過(guò)來(lái)。如：

　　You’ll know the truth sooner or later. 你遲早會(huì)知道真相的。

　　Sooner or later you’ll have to make a decision. 你早晚得拿個(gè)主意。
