Every year during the graduation famous people will talk to thousands of students and their parents. But this time something strange has happened. Each of the big-name speakers seems to speak of the same topic; they are all telling graduates to make the world a better place.

So there was Arianna Huffmgton at Smith College saying "what I advise you to do is not just take your place at the top of the world, but to change the world " The actress Kerry Washington told students at George Washington University: "The world needs your voice, every one of you." And then this, from Jeff Immelt, head of General Electric, at the University of Connecticut: "Graduates should be optimistic; believe in better. The world waits for your power."

Anyone can know what the famous speakers said is meaningless. The world has 7 billion voices to listen to already-it won't matter about one more or less. Neither is it clear why graduates should be especially optimistic, especially at the moment. The world doesn't wait for their power; only a small number of people will get the chance to lead anything.

Only Barack Obama in his address at Morehouse College avoided encouraging anyone to change the world. That is because he alone knows how hard it is to change it-even if you happen to be President of the United States. Not only has he failed to change the world, he can't even get people to give up guns in his own country.

Instead of aiming so impossibly high, the graduates of 2014 would do better to start a bit lower. When they leave their universities it will not "Hello world!" but "Hello again, Mum and Dad!" So what Ms Huflington, Mr. Obama and Mr. Immelt ought to have said was: change the world if you must, but it would be nice if you could help out by changing the bag in the rubbish basket first.

They should then have followed up with the importance of hard work. Graduates need to change their employment attitude. They need jobs. Sadly on commencement addresses(畢業(yè)典禮) no one tells them that even a bad job is better than none at all.

41.The author mentions what the three famous people said in the second paragraph to .

A.report how honest their addresses were

B.show the topics of their addresses are the same

C.report the differences among their addresses

D.show his suggestion on their addresses

42.What does the author argue in the third paragraph?

A.The world has 7 billion voices to listen to.

  B.Graduates should be especially optimistic.

C.The world doesn't wait for graduates' leadership.

D.the words that the famous speakers said have no meaning.

43.Why did Barack Obama avoid encouraging the graduates to change the world?

A.Because he is the president of America.

B.Because he thought the world was already perfect.

C.Because he didn't get Americans to give up guns.

D.Because he knew changing the world was not easy.

44.What is the author's attitude towards what big-name speakers said?

  A.Negative B.Surprised C.Supportive D.Respectful

45.What might be difficult for the graduates according to the author?

  A.Changing their life attitude.

B.Saying "Hello" again to their parents

C.Getting a good job with a high pay.

D.Changing the bag in the rubbish basket.

  41.B

  42.D

  43.D

  44.A

  45.C

Each of the big-name speakers seems to speak of the same topic; they are all telling graduates to make the world a better place故B選項正確。

That is because he alone knows how hard it is to change it-even if you happen to be President of the United States可知D選項正確。

由最后一段Sadly on commencement addresses(畢業(yè)典禮) no one tells them that even a bad job is better than none at all可知,對畢業(yè)生來,能夠得到工作就很不容易了,故得到高薪的好工作是非常難的。

由“Global English Center”中的“Choice of morning or evening classes, 3 hours per day”可知,如果工作時間是從上午九點到下午四點半工作,可以選擇在晚上上課。由“The International House of English”中的“A four-month evening program for developing speaking skills(same cost as day classes)”可知,如果工作時間是從上午九點到下午四點半工作,可以選擇在晚上上課。

由該部分的“Three/Six-month English courses for students of all levels at very low cost: 60 yuan for 12 hours per week”可知,每周費用是60元,一個月按四周來算,那么四個月應(yīng)交60×4×4=960元,故D選項切題。

What would you think if someone proposed knocking down St Paul’s Cathedral to widen the road? Or pulling down Big Ben to make way for a car park? It’d be ridiculous, right? But when it comes to devastation (毀滅) of the natural world, we aren’t so easily shocked. But we should be...or we’ll be in a lot of trouble!

Nature is shrinking by the day. Ancient forests are destroyed. Wetlands are becoming dry. Woodland is disappearing, and all in the name of progress. This is bad in itself, but it’s devastating for biodiversity.

Biodiversity refers to the variety of plants, animals and other living things which are all interconnected. The ecological services provided by biodiversity are vital to everyday life. The air we breathe is a product of photosynthesis(光合作用) by green plants. Insects, worms and bacteria break down waste and make soils rich. And tiny organisms clean the water in rivers and sea. In fact, all life on earth exists thanks to the benefits of biodiversity. More than 90 percent of the calories consumed by people worldwide are produced from 80 plant species. And 30 percent of medicines are developed from plants and animals. Maintaining a wide diversity of species in each ecosystem is necessary to preserve all living things.

The loss of biodiversity could be devastating. "It is wrong to think that biodiversity can be reduced indefinitely without threatening humans," said Harvard University biologist Edward O. Wilson, known as the "father of biodiversity". He warned," We are about to reach a critical point beyond which biodiversity loss will become irreversible(不可挽回的)."

But what can we do? The present problem is that the concept of biodiversity is so vague(含糊的). People might care about giant pandas, but it is much harder to excite them about the fate of tiny sea creatures which are being boiled to death in the cooling systems of power stations along coastlines. The Guardian newspaper is trying to help. It has launched the Biodiversity 100 campaign to try to convince governments around the world to take action to deal with the widespread concerns about biodiversity. This includes persuading the UK government to create a series of marine reserves to reverse the decrease in the sea-life caused by industrial fishing, stopping fishing sharks by the Japanese fishermen and banning the killing of dingoes in Australia, among many other things.

There is a lot to do. And we’d better act quickly if we don’t want to end up with a planet that can’t sustain life!

50.The writer thinks it to pull down Big Ben to make way for a car park.

  A.unreasonable B.necessary C.difficult D.reasonable

Or pulling down Big Ben to make way for a car park? It’d be ridiculous, right?"

We are about to reach a critical point beyond which biodiversity loss will become irreversible(不可挽回的)"可知,Edward O. Wilson 認為生物多樣性目前面臨的形勢非常嚴峻,不容樂觀。

They say that after a parent dies, the surviving children can take on some of their parent’s characteristics. I resisted for years becoming anything like my dad or at least acknowledging that I was anything like him because, well, because I wanted to be me, not him; but there I sat at his memorial service several months ago, telling myself, "You’ve got a lot more of your dad in you than you think."

There’s this phrase my dad used, and I know I’m going to sound rude to complain about it, but it did use to bother me. "I’m so proud of you," he told us kids, whether we’d won a sailing race (like my older brother) or run a marathon (like my younger sister) or managed to get a book published (like me). "I’m so proud of you." That should be a good thing, but here’s what always went through my unforgiving mind: "You’re taking credit for what isn’t really yours. You can be proud, but the achievement is mine." Ain’t it like a son? Your parent is doing his best to give you praise, and you’re cutting him down to size. "I’m so proud of you." It came out of my dad’s mouth all the time, on those long-distance calls where I might have mentioned something that happened at work or when he and Mom came to visit and we showed off the talents of our two boys. "I’m so proud of you" was the remark that was often repeated.

I knew the feeling of parental pride well, especially when my boys achieved in ways that were beyond my comprehension and ability, but I looked for other ways to express it. "That’s an incredible story you’ve written," I would say about the composition. "I can’t believe how fast you solved that problem," I would admire the work of the math genius. But never just the blanket phrase.

I thought that by making my praise specific, it would feel like I was claiming their achievement less as mine and more as one they could own themselves. But there I was at Dad’s memorial, about to eulogize him, thinking that I could say exactly what my brother said, "He lets me be me." That was his achievement. In the bland phrase that I promised I would never utter to my children was a world of forgiveness, care and appreciation. We kids could do no wrong in my father’s eyes, and because of that we found the freedom to fly far from the nest. What I took for a bad thing was love. So just the other day when my older son, now a promising manager, sent me an email about the thank-you dinner his latest client threw him, I thought hard for clever things to say, finally realizing your kids don’t really need your praise. They just want what my dad gave me. "I’m so proud of you," I wrote. Just like the old man.

  Dear students,

I am glad to be here to share my idea about what you should learn.

  _____________________________________________________________

  _____________________________________________________________

  ____________________________________________________

  Thanks for your attention.

Dear students,

I am glad to be here to share my idea about what you should learn. From my point of view, how to be a man is first required. We had better grow up to learn to be honest and kind. It is highly recommended that we should spend more time in helping and cooperating with others. In that way, we can learn how to get along well with others and know who we are, what we should do and what we’d better not.

The second required is to study. Learning how to learn and developing the good habit of learning are the two vital parts in the process of study. For instance, we are supposed to preview before class, pay close attention to what our teacher are saying, and review the knowledge we have gained. Only in this way can we form the good habit of learning.

Besides, It is advisable for us to learn how to live independently and how to deal with the difficulties properly in daily life. Learn to wash our clothes, clean rooms, cook, etc.

That’s what I’d like to say. What’s your opinions?

  Thanks for your attention.
