高中經(jīng)典英語故事：The fox and the lion 狐貍與獅子
When the fox first saw the lion he was terribly frightened. He ran away, and hid himself in the woods.
The second time, however, he came near the lion. He stopped at a safe distance, and watched him pass by.
The third time they came near one another.The fox went straight up to the lion, and stayed the whole day with him. He asked the lion how his family was, and when they would meet again.
They soon became good friends.
狐貍第一次見到獅子時非常害怕，趕緊藏到森林里。
當他第二次遇到獅子時，則站在附近看獅子經(jīng)過。

Once upon a time there was a miser. He hid his gold under a tree. Every week he used to dig it up.
One night a robber stole all the gold. When the miser came again, he found nothing but an empty hole.
He was surprised, and then burst into tears.All the neighbors gathered around him.
He told them how he used to come and visit his gold.
"Did you ever take any of it out?" asked one of them. "No," he said, "I only came to look at it." "Then come again and look at the hole," said the neighbor, "it will be the same as looking at the gold."

One morning a countryman went to his goose's nest, and saw a yellow and glittering egg there.
He took the egg home. To his delight, he found that it was an egg of pure gold.
Every morning the same thing occurred, and he soon became rich by selling his eggs.
The countryman became more and more greedy. He wanted to get all the gold at once, so he killed the goose, when he looked inside, he found nothing in its body.

Tom was very proud of his dog Blackie. Whenever he got the chance, he would ask his dog to please his friends with some tricks.
One day Tom went to visit his friend Jack who was sick at home with a bad cold."How are you feeling?" asked Tom."Worse than yesterday," answered Jack, "I have a terrible cough, and there is not a drop of medicine in the house. "Don't worry, Jack. I'll send Blackie to the drugstore for some medicine. He'll be back in a minute before you know it." Tom put a five dollar note in Blackie's mouth and the dog ran down the street. "And keep the change," Tom shouted after him.
"Oh, Tom, don't be silly. You know that dog won't be back with any medicine," said Jack. "oh, yes he will." answered Tom. Half an hour later, however, Blackie had not returned. Tom was feeling worried and felt angry at his friend's little smile.
"Something has happened to him, I'm sure," said Tom. "He obeyed me as a rule." Just then Jack saw Blackie at a distance. He hurried to open the door and let him in. Jack was shocked to see a bottle of medicine in the dog's mouth.
"Good boy," said Tom, "But what took you so long?" Blackie ran to the window, barking and wagging his tail. Tom looked out of the door and saw a bone outside.

“黑子一定是出什么事了，”湯姆說，“他一直很聽我話的。”就在這時，他遠遠地看到了黑子并趕緊跑過去開門讓黑子進來。杰克看到黑子嘴里的藥瓶子真吃了一驚。
“好小子，”湯姆說,“但是怎么花了這么長時間呢?”黑子朝窗子跑去，邊叫邊揺尾巴。湯姆從門往外一看，看見了一根骨頭。

Donny is my little brother. He is a naughty boy.
On Sunday morning Donny went into the yard and played with a dog. Sometimes a bird would come down to stay on the top's of the dog's house. Then Donny threw a stone at it. Suddenly the little boy began crying. Mother ran to Donny and asked him what was wrong. He said, "I've broken sister's plate. She has beaten me." "Why?" "I threw it at a bird, and it went straight to the plate."
Such was my naughty brother.
