The subjects of maths and physics have always fascinated me and I knew very early on that I wanted to pursue a career that involves science. As I progressed through school I found that I was much more interested in the application of the theory rather than the theory itself, and this is why I would like to study electronic engineering. I enjoy physics particularity as it can be observed in every aspect of life. From apples falling from trees to lightning, physics explains how the world works, and engineers throughout history have used their knowledge of physics to overcome problems that they face. The Romans built aqueducts to supply their cities with water; William Thomson helped lay the transatlantic telegraph cables that made communication between Europe and the Americas viable.

I also studied Advanced Higher Music last year at school. I am very interested in the use of electronics in music, and I wrote a project on the physics of the electric guitar. This interest prompted me to spend a week of work experience at Wolfson Microelectronics, a local company that engineer integrated circuits for many high profile audio equipment firms. During my stay I was assigned the task of designing and assembling a circuit to investigate the voltage offset and noise created by an operational amplifier. I was also introduced to a silicon microphone, a development which is sure to be significant in the future of electronics, and introduced to all the main stages in the development of a microchip, from design to failure analysis. My forthcoming Advanced Higher Physics investigation will be concerned with the properties of op-amps, the variables that affect these properties, and their applications.

In June, I attended a week-long Headstart course held at the University of Cambridge. We were given a task to assemble and programme a robot to navigate a course, using both dead-reckoning and sensors; I was part of the winning team. The course was thoroughly enjoyable and confirmed that engineering was the subject for me. I have applied to spend my gap year working in the engineering industry, through the Year in Industry scheme. I hope that I will gain invaluable experience of the industry in which I would like to build my career in, and this will no doubt help me understand better how what I learn at university relates to real-world applications.

I play the violin, guitar and bagpipes all to a high standard. I am a first violin in the main school orchestra and the chamber orchestra, lead guitar in the school "Rhythm and Blues" band and a senior member of the pipe band. I hold the rank of Corporal in my school cadet force, and I am a young leader at my Scout troop. Balancing these numerous extra-curricular activities with my academic work has forced me to develop my time management skills. My involvement in both cadets and Scouts has also greatly added to my team working and leadership skills. I was the leader of the team that won the Edinburgh Area Scout camping competition in 2005, and we finished in the top 5 in the country. Currently, I am working towards both my Duke of Edinburgh Gold award and my Queen's Scout award.

I also have a keen interest in computers, assembling my first at the age of twelve, and I am currently teaching myself Mandarin Chinese, something that I would like to continue studying throughout university and a skill that I believe will be very useful in the future, especially in the electronics industry. I keep up to date with the latest scientific news in by reading both Physics Review and New Scientist.

I believe that studying electronic engineering is the best way for me to apply my accumulated knowledge of maths and physics and I look forward to a career that will constantly present me with new challenges.

一、學(xué)術(shù)要求

1.學(xué)歷

愛(ài)爾蘭的大學(xué)中的本科,接受高中的在讀生和畢業(yè)生、本科在讀生和專科學(xué)生的申請(qǐng),大家需要出示自己的學(xué)歷證明,不管是在讀證還是畢業(yè)證,都需要進(jìn)行公證。

一般畢業(yè)生入學(xué)考核會(huì)相對(duì)簡(jiǎn)單一些,只需要出示畢業(yè)證;而在讀生則要嚴(yán)格得多,需要接受學(xué)校的考核,一般是入學(xué)的筆試和面試,合格才能入學(xué),不合格需要先讀預(yù)科。

2.成績(jī)

然后還會(huì)審核學(xué)生的成績(jī),成績(jī)單需要大家前往學(xué)校的學(xué)生管理處進(jìn)行開(kāi)具,需要提前遞交申請(qǐng),而且大家拿出來(lái)的材料還需要進(jìn)行翻譯并且接收公證。

愛(ài)爾蘭留學(xué)新生須知事項(xiàng)

一、機(jī)票

必須提前至少一周時(shí)間通知校方安排寄宿家庭,有的學(xué)校在暑假期間要求提前二周通知。因愛(ài)爾蘭與中國(guó)沒(méi)有直接航班機(jī),因而學(xué)生需經(jīng)歐洲的大城市轉(zhuǎn)機(jī)。倫敦是最經(jīng)濟(jì)的線路,但因需申請(qǐng)過(guò)境簽證,心須到北京使館面試,不值得勞神費(fèi)力。法蘭克富、巴黎、哥本哈根、阿姆斯特丹、布魯塞爾等都可以成為前往愛(ài)爾蘭的中轉(zhuǎn)城市,而且無(wú)須申請(qǐng)過(guò)境簽證。請(qǐng)將機(jī)票復(fù)印后傳真至代理處。一般學(xué)生在出發(fā)前可以接到寄宿家庭地址、電話,以方便入境及家長(zhǎng)與學(xué)生的聯(lián)系。購(gòu)票時(shí)請(qǐng)注意航班之間的銜接時(shí)間是否方便。

二、出發(fā)

外地學(xué)生提前一天到達(dá)北京,以免因意外發(fā)生延誤登機(jī)。國(guó)際航班一般提前3小時(shí)到機(jī)場(chǎng),提前2~2.5小時(shí)進(jìn)行登機(jī)登記,起飛前1小時(shí)結(jié)束登記。如果你在起飛前1小時(shí)未到柜臺(tái)前登記,航空公司有權(quán)將你的位子轉(zhuǎn)讓給其他乘客。學(xué)生到達(dá)機(jī)場(chǎng)后憑護(hù)照、機(jī)票在你的航線柜臺(tái)前排隊(duì)辦理登機(jī)手續(xù),同時(shí)托運(yùn)行李。

三、行李

普通艙免費(fèi)托運(yùn)行李為30公斤,連帶手提行李(1件),總共不得超過(guò)38公斤。否則,超過(guò)部分須會(huì)罰款人50元/公斤(或18美元/公斤)。不可以將任何貴重物品或現(xiàn)金放在托運(yùn)行李中,否則發(fā)生丟失航空公司不負(fù)責(zé)任。

四、登機(jī)

辦好登機(jī)手續(xù)的學(xué)生憑護(hù)照、機(jī)票、登機(jī)牌辦理出境手續(xù)(即通過(guò)邊防登記),之后通過(guò)安全檢查,按登機(jī)牌上的指示,到指定登機(jī)口等候登機(jī)。登機(jī)后請(qǐng)按登機(jī)牌上的座位號(hào)坐好,將隨身的行李放在頭頂上面或前面座位下方。請(qǐng)不要大聲喧嘩,以免影響周圍的乘客。起飛后,飛行期間會(huì)有飲料、酒水及午餐、晚餐供應(yīng)。如果特殊需要,可按扶手旁邊的按扭呼叫服務(wù)員。請(qǐng)不要帶走飛機(jī)上任何物品,如耳機(jī)等,這些是飛機(jī)專用耳機(jī),有可能毀壞你家中電器,因?yàn)楣β史浅4蟆?/p>

五、轉(zhuǎn)機(jī)

有的航班在北京辦理登機(jī)手續(xù)時(shí)已將下一段的登機(jī)牌換好,學(xué)生可根據(jù)登機(jī)牌上的指示找到登機(jī)口(GATE),按登機(jī)時(shí)間登機(jī)。學(xué)生可在過(guò)境機(jī)場(chǎng)游覽參觀,購(gòu)一些小紀(jì)念品,但切記在航班起飛前30分種到指定登機(jī)口等待登機(jī)。有的航線需要在中轉(zhuǎn)機(jī)場(chǎng)等待通知,一般在飛機(jī)起飛前1小時(shí)可在電視屏幕上按航班號(hào)找到登機(jī)口和時(shí)間,請(qǐng)密切注意,中轉(zhuǎn)機(jī)場(chǎng)沒(méi)有登機(jī)廣播。如果有疑問(wèn)可持機(jī)票或登機(jī)牌向機(jī)場(chǎng)工作人員求助。

六、入境

飛機(jī)到愛(ài)爾蘭后需填寫(xiě)入境卡,將護(hù)照一并交給入境官。中國(guó)學(xué)生需在非歐盟(NONEU)通道排隊(duì)入境。入境后一般同學(xué)校或寄宿家庭在機(jī)場(chǎng)大廳等候,認(rèn)清人名后,隨家長(zhǎng)回家,沐浴后休息,第二天早上到學(xué)校進(jìn)行分班測(cè)試,開(kāi)始留學(xué)生活。
