Roll the dice
Charles Bukowski

If you’re going to try, go all the way.
Otherwise, don’t even start.
If you’re going to try, go all the way.
This could mean losing girlfriends,
Wives, relatives, jobs and
Maybe your mind.
Go all the way.
It could mean not eating for 3 or 4 days.
It could mean freezing on a park bench.
It could mean jail,
It could mean derision,
It could mean mockery,isolation.
Isolation is the gift,
All the others are a test of your endurance of
How much you really want to do it.
And you’ll do it.
Despite rejection and the worst odds.
And it will be better than
Anything else you can imagine.
If you’re going to try,
Go all the way.
There is no other feeling like that.
You will be alone with the gods.
And the night will flame with fire.
Do it, do it.
Do it.
All the way.
All the way.
You will ride life straight to
Perfect laughter,
It’s the only good fight there is.
Love
––Roy Croft
I love you,
Not only for what you are,
But for what I am
When I am with you.
I love you,
Not only for what
You have made of yourself,
But for what
You are making of me.
I love you
For the part of me
That you bring out;
I love you
For putting your hand
Into my heaped-up heart
And passing over
All the foolish, weak things
That you can’t help
Dimly seeing there,
And for drawing out
Into the light
All the beautiful belongings
That no one else had looked
Quite far enough to find.
I love you because you
Are helping me to make
Of the lumber of my life
Not a tavern
But a temple;
Out of the works
Of my every day
Not a reproach
But a song
To make me happy
I love you
Because you have done
More than any creed
Could have done
To make me good
And more than any fate
To make me happy.
You have done it
Without a touch,
Without a word,
Without a sign.
You have done it
By being yourself.
By being yourself.
