My two sisters and I were all away at various(不同的) colleges at the same time.
我和兩個(gè)妹妹同時(shí)離開家去不同的大學(xué)讀書。
One day, after facing too many crises(危機(jī)) and tired of being treated the same as other college students, I phoned home for some consolation and understanding of my unique problems.

When my dad answered, I immediately launched(開始) into my litany of frustrations(挫折) with college life.

As I paused(停止) to catch my breath, he said: "OK, honey...now, first of all, who is that?"

A horse and an ass were traveling together.

The horse was prancing along in its beautiful trappings(馬飾), but the ass was carrying the heavy weight in its saddlebags.

The next day there was a great battle(戰(zhàn)役).

The horse was badly wounded(受傷的) in the final charge.

The ass passed and saw the dying horse. "I was wrong." said the ass:"Safety(安全) is much more important than beautiful clothes."
驢從將要死去的馬身邊經(jīng)過?！拔义e(cuò)了?！斌H說，“安全比漂亮的衣服更重要。”

An eagle(鷹) was flying in the sky. As soon as it saw a rabbit, it swooped(俯沖) down on its prey.

Suddenly it was hit by an arrow.

It fluttered(扇動(dòng)) slowly down to the earth, and blood was pouring from the wound.

When the eagle looked down and it saw that the tail of the arrow was made of one of his own feathers(羽毛).

A bird was confined(關(guān)押) in a cage outside a window.

When Hercules was walking in the forest, he saw a ball(球) lying on the ground.
赫爾克里斯在森林里漫步時(shí)，他看到前面有個(gè)球。
He kicked(踢) it because it blocked his way.

To his surprise, the ball did not roll away, but grew much bigger than before. So he kicked it again much harder.

The harder he kicked, the bigger the ball grew.
他越用力地踢，球變得越大。
At last it completely(完全地) filled up the road.
后來球竟將路完全堵住了。
Then, Athena appeared(出現(xiàn)).
這時(shí)，雅典娜出現(xiàn)了。
"Stop, Hercules." she said:"Stop kicking. The ball’s name is Strife(沖突). Leave it alone and it will soon become small again."
“停下來，赫爾克里斯?！彼f：“不要再踢了，這個(gè)球叫沖突。不去管它，它很快就變小了?！?/p>
