What kind of music do you prefer? Country music is my favorite. When you are tired after studying hard, it is helpful to listen to American country music. The music will take you to mountains and fields.
Country music usually talks of everyday life and feelings. It's the spirit of America, easy to understand, slow and simple.
Country music developed in the southern states of America. It was the folk music of the American countryside. The singers usually used guitars and accordions(手風(fēng)琴). They also added instruments from their homes, like bottles and plates. Many of the songs tell about the lives of farmers. They talk about love, sadness, good times and bad times. Rural life can be hard, so the words are often sad. Now pianos. violins and other instruments are used in the country music.
At first. people played the music only at family parties. When people moved to towns and cities to look for work, they took their music with them. Country music continued to change and became popular across America--in small towns and in big cities. In the 1920s. people played country songs on the radio, and they made them into records. In the 1970s, John Denver became one of America's most famous country singers. His song “Take Me home, Country Road” is well-known and people still play it today.

Do you want to know about my staying in America? Well, to tell you the truth, it is really an eye-opening experience study here.
In China, I had English classes five times a week since fifth grade. However, I didn’t know how different between textbook English and everyday English until I came to Hotchkiss School, Connecticut.
When I first studied English, I was told to say, “I am fine.” when people say “How are you?” But in the US, I found that people say,“I am good.”or“I am tired.”
One day, someone greeted me with “What’s up?” It made me confused(困惑的). I thought for a moment and then smiled because I didn't know what to say.
Since then, I have discovered more and more differences between Chinese and US cultures. To my surprise, US girls spend a lot of time in the burning sun to get a tan. However, in China, girls try every possible way to get their skin paler, or “whiter.”
I also surprised by how hard-working. In China, schoolwork is almost everything, so we study hard. But here, a “good” student gets good grades, does a lot for the public and plays sports or music.
The kids here are so talented, I feel sorry that I gave up playing the piano at an early age and that I have never thought about sports.
( )61. According to the writer, textbook English is _________everyday English.
A. quite different from B. the same as C. more difficult than D. easier than
( )62. The word “tan ” mean_________ in Chinese.

( )63. A good US student spends his/her time ________.
A. only in doing homework B. only on sports or music
C. on sports or music and public work D. on studies, sports or music and public work
( )64. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. The writer is now in US. B. American girls love to have white skin.
C. US students are talented. D. The writer has learned to play the piano.
( )65. The best title for the passage is________.
A. My Own Travel in the US B. My Opinion about the US
C. My Studying in the US D. How to learn English

In today’s world many people seem to be hungry for money. Some of them even lose their lives for it. Money does have its most useful effect on the poor, but once a person has a rich life, a lot more money doesn’t mean more happiness.
If money was everything, all millionaires(百萬(wàn)富翁)would have true love, true friendship, good health and a long life. However, this is not always true.
Nothing else is more pleasant than the three words which are “I love you”. But can love be bought? I don’t think so. Love means to give, not to take. To every person, health and a long life are probably the most precious(寶貴的)things. Well, can health and a long life be bought with money? The answer is “No”, of course.
Of all the longest living people in the world, few of them are millionaires. True friendship can’t be bought either. In a word, when money is worshiped(崇拜), it can cause brothers to quarrel, lovers to hate, strangers to fight and so on. No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make you a happy person if you have no one to laugh with, no one to cry for.
61. According to the passage, which of the following do you think is right?
A. Money is everything. B. Money is important, but not the most important.
C. Money isn’t necessary. D. With no money, with no success.
62. What’s the most important thing for every person according to the writer?
A. Money. B. Health and a long life.
C. Friendship. D. Happiness.
63. Which sentence of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. If you haven’t much money, you can’t get more happiness.
B. Every year many people die in the world because their family is poor.
C. You may live a long life even if you are poor.
D. If you are rich, you will have less friendship.
64. What would the writer like to tell us in Paragraph 4?
A. All the millionaires are the longest living people in the world.
B. Money can buy all the things, including true friendship.
C. Money can make all the people get on well with each other.
D. Money can make you unhappy unless you have others to share happiness and sadness
with.
65. What does the underlined sentence “Love means to give, not to take.” mean in the passage?

Some people love going to museums, while others really hate it and would rather stay at home, enjoying their favourite TV shows. So museums are being seen as out-of-date and boring by today’s young people. I have just returned to the UK after travelling around the USA. While I was there, I visited lots of museums. I must say, museums are educational, either to develop knowledge learned at school, or to improve knowledge of other cultures.
In Chicago, we visited the world-famous Art Institute of Chicago. It was full of paintings, drawings and sculptures by a large number of artists, such as Picasso, Monet, Matisse and Dali. There was a mixture of traditional and modern art.
When we were in Washington D.C., we visited a few of the Smithsonian museums. These are all free to visitors, which is great if you just want to see a few things, and not spend all day inside. The Air and Space Museum was especially good: it had lots of planes on show, interesting information and also some interactive (互動(dòng)) parts. We also went to the National U. S. Holocaust (納粹大屠殺) Memorial Museum. Naturally, it was sad to read about the horrors which influenced so many people in World War II. However, it was also interesting to read the stories of those who survived the Holocaust, as well as those who helped others.
I also found the 9/11 Memorial and Museum to be of great interest. This museum is for those who lost their lives, as well as their families, when the Twin Towers in New York City were attacked by terrorists in 2001. It tells you how the terrorists planned the attack and what happened as a result of their actions. Surviving pieces of the towers are shown in the museum. It was a truly meaningful visit, which made me treasure my own life more.
I think museums play an important role in realizing historical importance for future people. Whatever your interests are, there may be a museum for you. You can visit waxwork (蠟像) museums to see models of famous people, science museums for an interactive visit and a little bit more! Best of all, if you’re ever in the UK, many of them are free!
66. The first paragraph tells us that _____________. .
A. people of all ages love going to museums
B. trips to museums are always very tiring
C. most museums in the USA are outdated
D. some young people find museums boring
67. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. There are a lot of interactive parts in waxwork museums.
B. Art Institute of Chicago has a mixture of traditional and modern art.
C. You’d better read the stories before visiting the holocaust Memorial Museum.
D. The Air and Space Museum shows the twin towers were attacked by terrorists.
68. What does the underlined word “terrorists” mean in paragragh 4?
A. 綁匪 B. -分子 C. 竊賊 D. 搶劫犯
69. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Future people have the duty to protect museums.
B. Visiting 9/11 Memorial and Museum is educational.
C. All the museums around the world are free for students.
D. Taking photos is allowed in the Smithsonian museums.
70. What is the writer’s opinion towards museums?
A. She suggests going to museums.
B. She warns of the problems of museums.
C. Museums have advantages and downsides.
D. Museums should be open to all kinds of people.

Most high schools in the United States publish a yearbook once a year, usually in spring. It is a record of the school year—a “book of memories” for the students.
Inside a yearbook is each student’s photo. The seniors are graduating soon, and their photos appear first. Next are the juniors. They are one year behind the seniors. Then come the second-year students. The last photos are the first-year students. The yearbook is not only about students. The teachers have photos, too.
The yearbook also has photos and descriptions of many activities. These are activities that students do after school, such as the chess club and Spanish club. There is even a yearbook club. Students in this club write, design and take photos all year for the yearbook.
In the yearbook, some students receive special titles. The seniors vote and choose the “class clown” (a funny student), the “most likely to succeed” (a student who got the best grades), and the “best dressed” (a student with a good fashion sense). There are also other awards.
Students usually sign each other’s yearbooks. This is especially important for the seniors because they are graduating. Students write notes to each other, such as, “We had a lot of fun,” or “I’ll never forget you.” They also write about the fun and funny experiences they shared in school together.

One of the most common questions I am asked is whether, when, and how to follow up after a job interview(面試). Following up in some way is necessary. Yes, you can get a job without it, but if you compete with other top candidates(候選人), following up can sometimes help you when the other candidate doesn’t. Here’s how to follow up well:
Send a thank-you note right away. E-mail is fine for this and has the advantage of arriving faster, but handwritten notes are still enjoyed. And if there are many interviews, send a thank-you note each time.
Find out their timeline. Hopefully, you asked about their timeline in the interview itself, but if you didn’t, follow up within a week to strengthen your interest and politely ask what they expect their timeline for a decision to be.
Be patient. Commonly, job seekers(求職者) are too worried about the result. It needn’t look worried to express your interest in the job or check in to ask about the timeline.
Don’t be nervous if you don’t hear from them at once. The hiring process(招聘流程) often takes longer than a candidate would like, maybe the decision makers are out of town. If you miss the time they told you to hear something, it’s unnecessary to be nervous. Hiring often ends up taking longer than expected. Just politely follow up, explain you’re very interested but understand that hiring can take time, and ask if they have the latest timeline.

Daniel is a member of my team called Sunshine. Everyone in our group likes him very much because he is smart and hard-working. It’s also generous of him to share things with us. He often helps us when we are in trouble.
In his free time, he not only likes reading detective stories, travelling but also likes watching programmes about sports. But since this term, he has devoted most of time to study and has made great progress.
He is good at sports, especially running. He came first in the race of school sports meeting this year. He is such a brave young boy that he successfully helped Detective Lu solve the case of kidnapping. Because of this, he was honored with “Award for Bravery”.
But recently, he has got some problems. He is suffering from the coming exams. He feels so stressed that he can’t sleep well at night. I think that he worries too much and should arrange his time well so that he can achieve the confidence and pass the exams successfully. I hope he thinks my advice is worth taking.
