Most artists have a favorite material they like to work with. For 28yearold Kristen Alice, it happens to be garbage. The ecofriendly designer uses her incredible talent to transform garbage like empty drink bottles and candy wrappers into charming dresses that sell for thousands of dollars.

Kristen says the idea came to her after she saw how much waste she and her three college roommates generated on a daily basis. The Fine Arts student began to dream about transforming the deserted bags and packages into beautiful garments.

Her first dress made from plastic bags and rolled magazines was strange, fun and even charming. However, she only made it to test her creativity.

The young designer did not consider starting a commercial venture(企業(yè))until she spent a week working at Couture Fashion Week in New York City. There she observed the excitement generated by new and vintage(復(fù)古的)looks and decided to see if her unusual idea would result in as much enthusiasm. She began by creating a line of 12 garbageinspired dresses. They were a huge success.

Today her company that has offices in Palm Beach, Florida and New York City, produces a wide variety of dresses ranging from cocktail dresses to ball gowns (禮服).Kristen, of course, doesn't search garbage cans for her material anymore.Instead, she seeks it from companies that have produced more than they need and are planning to throw away the extras.

However, if you think the garbageinspired dresses come cheap, think again. The price for readymade creations retails(零售)from 0 to class="main">

  【2016高考訓(xùn)練題】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C、D)中,選出最佳選項。

Brownie and Spotty were neighbor dogs who met every day to play together. These two loved each other and played together so often that they had worn a path through the grass of the field between their respective houses.

One evening, Brownie’s family noticed that Brownie hadn’t returned home. They went looking for him with no success and by the next week he was still missing.

Curiously, Spotty showed up at Brownie’s house alone. Barking, whining (哀叫) and generally pestering (糾纏) Brownie’s human family. Busy with their own lives, they just ignored the nervous little neighbor dog.

Continuously,Ted, Brownie’s owner, was disturbed by the angry, determined little dog. Spotty followed Ted about, barking insistently, then rushing toward a nearby empty lot and back, as if to say, “Follow me! It’s urgent!”

Eventually, Ted followed Spotty to a deserted spot half a mile from the house. There Ted found his beloved Brownie alive, one of his hind legs crushed in a steel leghold trap. Horrified, Ted now wished he’d taken Spotty’s earlier appeals seriously. Then Ted noticed something quite remarkable.

Spotty had done more than simply led Brownie’s human owner to his trapped friend. In a circle around the injured dog, Ted found an array of dog food and table scraps which were later identified as the remains of every meal Spotty had been fed that week!

Spotty had been visiting Brownie regularly, in the hope of keeping his friend alive by sacrificing his own comfort. Spotty had evidently stayed with Brownie to protect him from hunger and other dangers, and keep his spirits up.

Brownie’s leg was treated by a veterinarian (獸醫(yī)) and he recovered. For many years thereafter, the two families watched the faithful friends chasing each other down that well worn path between their houses.

1.Why did Ted pay little attention to Spotty at the very beginning?

A.Because Ted was tired of listening to Spotty barking.

B.Because Ted only cared about Brownie’s safety.

C.Because Ted was not free at that moment.

D.Because Ted knew where Brownie was.

2.When Ted was led by Spotty to Brownie, he .

A.was curious to find out what had happened

  B.highly appreciated Spotty’s help

  C.was worried about Brownie’s health

  D.regretted not following Spotty earlier

3.Not only did Spotty help Ted find Brownie but also .

A.he went to see his friend and played with him secretly

B.he sent messages to some other persons in his community to save his friend

C.he managed to lead a veterinarian to treat his friend

D.he sent food to his friend, accompanied him and inspired him to cheer up

4.What can we learn from the story?

  A.Barking dogs seldom bite.

B.A friend in need is a friend indeed.

  C.Love me, love my dog.

  D.Every dog has its day.

  Relax during a job interview

Few people actually like job interviewing. It's nervewracking trying to show your “best ”self to a perfect stranger. __1__ That's not easy, but there are some ways to pull yourself together and feel more confident.

Prepare solid talking points. It's always best to overprepare for possible questions by not only researching the company and the person interviewing you, but also by preparing answers and practicing those responses. Review the skills and experiences requested in the job announcement and have two to three examples how you have demonstrated each one. __2__

Remember: It's a twoway street. This is conversation, not an interrogation(審問).__3__ Remembering that this is a back and forth discussion, where you can—and should—ask questions as well as answer them, can help you feel more comfortable.

Just breathe. __4__ Your body will relax a lot. You want to avoid upper chest breathing, as it tends to just move you, stress upward to your face.

__5__ If you go into an interview picking apart your outfit or imperfect responses, you're only hurting your chances of coming off as calm and collected. Turn off your negative selftalk and then create a different selftalk message, like ,“I am here to share the best of my ability and that is all I can really do.”

Work it out. Putting in some gym time the morning of your interview can help you get rid of any nervous tension. Exercise helps calm your nervous system and tends to reduce the intensity of physical manifestations(表現(xiàn)形式)of stress such as restlessness.

  A.Stop the negative thoughts.

  B.Put your idea into practice.

C.When faced with an interviewer, you may be nervous.

D.Before you walk into your interview, take a few deep breaths.

E.You're trying to prove you're the one for the job and that you can handle stressful situations.

F.Don't forget that you're not the only one being interviewed—you're also interviewing the organization.

G.This will strengthen your answers and allow you to show how your experience is relevant to the job or organization for which you're interviewing.

  文章大意:文章介紹在面試時如何擺脫緊張,讓自己放松。

  1.E 根據(jù)上句中的nervewracking并與E中的stressful前后對應(yīng)等。故選E。

2.G 根據(jù)空前的Review the skills and experiences requested in the job announcement and have two to three examples how you have demonstrated each one.和G的strengthen, show, experience, job, organization等可知選G。

3.F 根據(jù)空前的This is conversation, not an interrogation(審問)和空后 Remembering that this is a back and forth discussion和題干F后not the only one等判斷選F。

  4.D 根據(jù)空前的Just breathe.和空后的關(guān)鍵詞relax和D中的take a few deep breaths可判斷選D。

5.A 根據(jù)空后的Turn off your negative selftalk and then create a different selftalk message和A中的stop the negative thoughts判斷選A。
