Sing the Language You’re Learning
How can you remember a song from your childhood to this day? Why do your teachers use songs to teach you English? It seems there is a scientific reason for this.
Researchers are now studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They find that remembering words in a song is the best way to remember even the most difficult language.
“Singing could be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things when they are used in a catchy and meaningful way”, said Dr, Karen Ludke. The findings may help those who have difficulties learning foreign languages. On his blog, Dr. Ludke writes, “A listen-and-repeat singing method can support foreign language learning, and opens the door for future research in this area.”
Many language teachers know the value of using music and singing. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in Washington, D.C. depends heavily on songs in teaching Chinese. She says, “I use music all the time to teach children Chinese. For little kids, usually we use the music. Not only does it work, but it is fun for kids.”
“Sometimes, I think if I were taught English that way, maybe I could speak much better English than now,” Hua Zhuying adds. Our brain likes music, especially for remembering. So, if you’re still struggling in learning a language, why not try singing it out ?

I think it is safe to say that snakes are not popular among most people. It would be hard to find a person who is neutral (中立的), or simply doesn’t care one way or the other. What I wonder is why something even without legs causes such great fear.
Snakes are quite useful, but that doesn’t seem to matter. Snakes help control the population of mice. Without snakes, perhaps we would find mice everywhere. Most of us, however, would rather see a mouse than a snake.
The poison argument (毒性的爭論) is a strong one. Some snakes are poisonous, and this causes people’s death. However, the poisonous snakes are only a small number. We can’t say all the snakes are bad just because of a few dangerous ones.
And what do we do with the people who really like snakes? They like snakes even more strongly than we dislike them. These people learn about them, find them out, and watch them carefully. Why? The only reason I can think of is that these people are open-minded. They are able to put aside differences and welcome the snake as a friend.
Whatever the reason for our like or dislike, snakes do something good in the circle of life. They would prefer to be left alone, and that is what we should do. If you’re lucky, you might not run across more than a few of them in a lifetime. That would be fine with most of us.
48. How does the writer describe the appearance of snakes?
A. Something even without legs. B. Something not popular among people.
C. A person who is neutral. D. A person who cares about nothing.
49. Which of the following shows that most people dislike snakes?
A. They welcome snakes as their best friends.
B. They would rather see a mouse than a snake.
C. They wonder why snakes can cause great fear.
D. They learn about snakes and watch them carefully.
50. People who really like snakes are open-minded because they _________.
A. are able to put aside differences B. think all the snakes are poisonous
C. are able to deal with poisonous snakes D. take part in the poison argument
51. The last paragraph seems to tell us that the writer _________.
A. dislikes snakes B. has the best luck C. loves snakes D. prefers to be left alone
D
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的五個(gè)選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有一項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。
Time to Dance
Are you the kind of person who likes to move with music? It's a natural thing to do. Even little children start jumping up and down when they hear music.
Scientists say that animals dance, too. 52 . The "dances" of animals send messages to other animals. But when people dance, they express feelings about life and love, or about these very human experiences.
Dances are good for you in many ways. For one thing, dancing is good for you physically. It makes your heart work and makes you breathe fast. 53 . If you go dancing often, you can keep physically fit. You may feel very tired after dancing, but you’ll probably also feel relaxed and happy. This is another important point about dancing. It gives you a chance to express your feelings and feel better about yourself. 54 , dancing helps those feelings go away.
55 . Some dances are for couples and some are for groups. But all kinds of dances give you a chance to meet new people or to do something enjoyable with friends.

When you want to go shopping, decide how much money you can spend for new clothes. Think about the kind of clothes you really need. Then look for those clothes on sale.
There are labels (標(biāo)簽) inside all new clothes. The labels tell you how to take care of your clothes. The label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash in cold water. The label on a coat may say "dry clean only". For washing may ruin (損壞) this coat. If you do as the directions on the label, you can keep your clothes looking their best for a long time.
Many clothes today must be dry-cleaned. Dry cleaning is expensive. When buying new clothes, check to see if they will need to be dry-cleaned. You will save money if you buy clothes that can be washed.
You can save money if you buy clothes that are well made. Well-made clothes last longer. They look good even after they have been washed . Clothes that cost more money are not always better made. However, it is bad for our daily life. First of all, smart-phones have effects on relationship with family and friends. Besides, if phubbers concentrate on playing smart-phones, traffic accidents will happen easily. What’s more, if phubbers play phones too much, it will do harm to health and it is also bad for study and work.
So phubbers should make good use of smart-phones to open our eyes and enrich our knowledge. We should communicate more often by face-to-face conversations rather than chatting online.
