Lottery, booming all of a sudden all over the world, attracts all kinds of people. Nearly everybody, old or young, rich or poor, is right now trying his luck in lottery or is thinking of doing so. Despite many disputes that lottery is receiving, I still assume, personally, that lottery does mere good than harm.
The worst effect caused by lottery, as many socialists indicate, is that it produces in people an idea of "gain without pain'.But at the same time, they neglect one point--it is human nature that people all expect to obtain most while offer least. The thought of "gain without pain" is buried in everyone's heart and is not bred by lottery.
Consequently, lottery is innocent in this way. But there still remain a large group of people against lottery, among whom are some lottery addicts. Such people are fond of lottery but unfortunately luck is never fond of them. Finally, they end up in complaining about lottery, declaring the great harm, both psychologically and economically lottery has done to them. In this case, the problem lies in the attitude of people, not lottery.
Since the major two sorts of harm are not lottery's fault, let's have an objective look on lottery. For the society, lottery is the most practical way to accumulate funds. For those who happen to win a large fortune, I think they can't kiss their lottery enough. Also for those who have not a single chance to be lucky dogs, lottery can mutely tell them the truth of "no pains, no gains."
Spare the lottery! It, in itself can do more good than harm.

Nowadays it is a very common phenomenon that some university students are late for or even absent from classes, and there are also some students who slip out of the classroom before the class is over. In a word, class attendance has become a thorny problem to both the students and teachers.
In fact, it is very important for the students to attend their classes regularly. On one hand, it will ensure you to catch up with the teachers in your learning, which is very helpful to you if you want to do a good job in your study. On the other hand, attending classes regularly is a way of showing respect to your teachers, too. Your teachers will feel bad if the students do not attend their classes, which, in turn, will affect their teaching and be no good for the students. What’s more, attending classes regularly will help to form a good habit of punctuality, which is of great importance for the students to do a good job in the future.
Therefore, we university students should form the good habit of attending our classes regularly from now on. Besides, going to classes on time and listening to

Nowadays, it has become as common in colleges and universities for students to grade teachers as for teachers to grade students. In some universities students’ rating has even become the only standard for judging teaching effectiveness. This, however, has caused great controversy. Some are in favor of the rating system, for they hold that since students attend the teachers’ classes every day, they have the right to rate their teachers about their teaching quality. Others, on the contrary, are strongly against it. They believe that there is much more to teaching than what is shown on students’ rating forms. Students should not be expected to judge how well the teachers have done in their jobs, because these judgments require professional knowledge, which is best left for the teachers’ colleagues.
In my opinion, students’ rating of their teachers is necessary, for it serves as their feedback from which their teachers can learn about their teaching effectiveness and the aspects in which they should improve themselves. Therefore, as long as this rating is conducted in a way that can really shed meaningful light on teachers’ performance, it’s worth advocating.

Dormitory life is an indispensable part of college life. But sometimes the harmony in the dormitory may be disturbed in one way or another. For example, we may often hear some students complaining about their roommates playing music so loud while they are learning.
As is known to all, a harmonious dormitory life is important to college students and benefits all the members. On one hand, we can have a good rest and put our heart into study. On the other hand, we will have a good mood and enjoy being together. There are several ways to create and maintain a harmonious dormitory life. First of all, you have to evaluate your life-style and try to get rid of your bad habits, if there are any. What’s more, you’ll have to share with each other and make good friends. Most important of all, when an annoying situation arises, you’ll just have to learn to tolerate each other and co-exist.
In conclusion, we should try our best to build a harmonious dormitory life for the sake of good study and happy life.

In recent years, college students find it increasingly difficult to get a job, and there is a wide-spread saying on campus that “graduation means unemployment”. In a word, college students’ job hunting has become a key problem worth our careful consideration.
Many factors lead to this problem. To begin with, nowadays college students aim too high. All they want are “satisfying” jobs which could offer good salary, comfortable working conditions, and high social status among others. Consequently, most college students are unwilling to accept vacant jobs they consider not “good” enough. Another reason is that there is a big gap between the majors some students study in school and the demands of vacant jobs. So companies think some students are not fit for the jobs.
Solution to the problem requires efforts on both the society and the students. The companies should value the students’ talent and knowledge while the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-to–earth in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so as to improve themselves and be more competent and competitive in the job market.

As is clearly shown in the table that there was a dramatic change in the way people spent their holidays between 1990 and 2000. Especially, in 1990, 63% of people spent their holidays at home, while the figure decreased considerably to 24% in 2000. There are three reasons for this phenomenon. To begin with, with the development of market-oriented economy, people earn by far more money than they used to, making it possible for them to afford traveling expenses. In addition, people realize the importance of getting well-informed about the outside world in this modern era to develop their potential. For example, a traveler may encounter or talk with someone of a different cultural background so as to broaden his vision. Last but not least, by traveling outside, people are close to nature, which is not only beneficial to both their health and peace of mind. In short, more and more people take the occasion of holiday to travel outside and relax themselves .
In brief, the statistics has shown that more and more people prefer to go traveling instead of staying at home during holidays. There is no doubt that this trend will go on and people will benefit more from traveling during the holidays.

Being online is no longer something new or fresh in our life. To some extent, it has become part of our daily life. We can do a lot of things online, such as searching for information and communicating with friends far away. But recently another helpful online activity has become very “in”. That is online education.
Why could online education be so popular within such a short period of time? Among other reasons, the quick development of the Internet should be an essential one, which makes all our dreams of attending class in the distance possible. Another underlying reason is the quick development of both society and technology. Today, modern science and technology is developing with fantastic speed. To catch up with this development we all feel an urgent and strong desire to study. However, due to the great pace of modern society, many people are too busy to study full time at school. Online education just comes to their aid.
Personally, I appreciate this new form of education. It’s indeed a helpful complement to the traditional educational means. It can provide different learners with more flexible and versatile ways of learning. Best of all, with online education, we can stick to our jobs and at the same time study and absorb the latest knowledge.

Nowadays, the education of the youth to be grateful is taken more and more seriously not only at school, but also in the whole society. Then what is the importance of learning to be grateful?
Firstly, learning to be grateful makes one see the bright side of life that turns him into a positive person. It can also perfect his personalities, which plays a vital role in his future development. Secondly, learning to be grateful can make one become a responsible citizen in the society. If one’s heart is full of gratefulness, he can offer as much as he can to others, and make a great contribution to the society. Still more importantly, since no individual live completely independent of others, being grateful, a person will not do things at the price of sacrificing the interest of others.
Briefly, if everyone is grateful, our society will be more harmonious, our family will have more happiness, and we, as individuals, will have a more bright future for self-development. So let us learn to appreciate what we get, and we’ll realize what a blessed life we have.

There is no doubt that wealth brings happiness. Most of the people try to acquire (獲取) wealth by means of honest labor. Their efforts contribute to(帶來,導(dǎo)致) the welfare of the society and at the same time(省了contribute) to the accumulation (聚集)of their wealth, and hence(省了contribute) to their happiness.
However, there are exceptions(也有例外) when wealth does not go hand in hand with happiness. Wealth may tempt weak-willed persons to be addicted to harmful habits, and gambling is a case to the point; meanwhile, to live life only for the material objects will bring us nothing but sadness and misery.
In my opinion, one should never rely only on wealth to achieve happiness. I believe that the essence of happiness is the unconditional love we have for the people in our lives and their unconditional love for us, so, on no account(決不) can we identify wealth with happiness.

Teamwork is increasingly important in modern society. It's known to all that nearly everything, such as every loaf of bread, every article of clothes, every house or apartment, every means of transportation, and so on, is the product of cooperative efforts. Thus, there is no exaggerating to say that only for existence, not to mention the pursuit and obtainment of happiness, one can't do without the ability to work harmoniously with others.
We can benefit a lot from teamwork especially in the highly developed society today, one can almost accomplish nothing without joint efforts. What we have got through teamwork is not only self-improvement, personal success but also the satisfaction at both our devotion to common causes and the sense of collective honor. Therefore, to meet the needs of both personal improvement and the sophisticated society, we should learn to cooperate with each other and adjust to each other. Only in this way can we achieve success and satisfy ourselves as well as the society.
