　　Every body wants success. Some people aim for it; others just talk about it. We all know what it looks like... when someone else has it. Often times it just seems like something too far out of reach.

　　每個人都渴望獲得成功。有些人以此為目標(biāo)，而有些人則多言寡行。當(dāng)別人獲得成功時(shí)，我們都知道什么是成功。在很多時(shí)候，成功看起來似乎遙不可及。

　　The truth is... success is closer than you think. It's just on the other side... you have to want it enough, and be willing enough to get it.

　　Fear is your biggest obstacle — fear of failure, fear of the judgment of others; fear of actually succeeding. It will trip you up every time. It will cause you to make decisions that may seem "right" at the time, but they're preventing you from actually getting over that wall.

　　Everyone faces changes; different ones at different times. We all handle the same challenges differently; we all have different results. Remember, you've got to get passed obstacles in order to succeed.

　　Not everything works; even if it works for other people, the same thing just doesn^ work for us. So what? Failure can either become an obstacle and an excuse or it can become your teacher in what not to do. What's it going to be?

It's going to take determination and persistence on your part to get up and over that wall.

　　Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom. It is the result of long and patient effort in selfcontrol, Its presence is an indication of ripened experience, and of a more than ordinary knowledge of the laws and operations of thought.

　　心靈的平靜是智慧的寶藏，它來自于長期、耐心的自我控制。內(nèi)心的安寧是經(jīng)歷成熟的表現(xiàn)，也是對思想活動規(guī)律的更深入的了解。

　　A man becomes calm in the measure that he understands himself as a thought evolved being, for such knowledge necessitates the understanding of others as the result of thought, and as he develops a right understanding, and sees more and more clearly the internal relations of things by the action of cause and effect he ceases to fuss and fume and worry and grieve, and remains poised, steadfast, serene.

　　一個人能否心境平和，取決于他對自己的了解程度，因?yàn)槿绻肓私鈩e人，就必須先了解自己;當(dāng)他對人對己有了更深入的了解，并越來越清晰地洞察到事物內(nèi)部息息相關(guān)的因果關(guān)系時(shí)，他就不會再驚訝、憤怒、焦慮或憂愁，而是以從容、鎮(zhèn)定、平和的態(tài)度去對待一切。

　　The calm man, having learned how to govern himself, knows how to adapt himself to others; and they, in turn, reverence his spiritual strength, and feel that they can learn of him and rely upon him. The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good. Even the ordinary trader will find his business prosperity increase as he develops a greater selfcontrol and equanimity, for people will always prefer to deal with a man whose demeanor is strongly equable.

　　The strong, calm man is always loved and revered. He is like a shadegiving tree in a thirsty land, or a sheltering rock in a storm. "Who does not love a tranquil heart, a sweettempered, balanced life?" It does not matter whether it rains or shines, or what changes come to those possessing these blessings, for they are always sweet, serene, and calm. That exquisite poise of character, which we call serenity is the last lesson of culture, the fruitage of the soul. It is precious as wisdom, more to be desired than gold — yea, than even fine gold. How insignificant mere money seeking looks in comparison with a serene life, a life that dwells in the ocean of truth, beneath the waves, beyond the reach of tempests, in the eternal calm!

How few people we meet in life who are well balanced, who have that exquisite poise which is characteristic of the finished character!"

　　Yes, humanity surges with uncontrolled passion, is tumultuous with ungoverned grief, is blown about by anxiety and doubt. Only the wise man, only he whose thoughts are controlled and purified, makes the winds and the storms of the soul obey him.

Keep your hand firmly upon the helm of thought. In the bark of your soul reclines the commanding master; he does but sleep; wake him. Selfcontrol is strength; right thought is mastery; calmness is power. Say unto your heart, "Peace, be still!"
