　　The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read beneath the long, straggly branches of an old willow tree. Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown, for the world was intent on dragging me down.

　　In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight, with its petals all worn—not enough rain, or too little light. Wanting him to take his dead flower and go off to play, I faked a small smile and then shifted away.

　　Horror gripped the heart of the World War I soldier as he saw his lifelong friend fall in battle. Caught in a trench with continuous gunfire whizzing over his head, the soldier asked his lieutenant if he might go out into the "No Man's Land" between the trenches to bring his fallen comrade back. "You can go, “said the Lieutenant, “but I don't think it will be worth it. Your friend is probably dead and you may throw your own life away."

　　The Lieutenant's words didn't matter, and the soldier went anyway. Miraculously he managed to reach his friend, hoisted him onto his shoulder, and brought him back to their company's trench.

　　John was waiting for the girl whose heart he knew ，but whose face he didn’t ，the girl with the rose。Thirteen months ago，in a Florida library he took a book off the shelf and found himself intrigued with the notes in the margin 。The soft handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and insightful mind。

　　It’s not difficult to admire Miss Maynell’s wisdom，the true nature of a heart is seen in it’s response to the unattractive。
