The Golden Key
金鑰匙
In the wintertime, when deep snow lay on the ground,
冬天的時候，厚厚的積雪覆蓋著大地，
a poor boy was forced to go out on a sled to fetch wood.
一個窮孩子迫不得已坐上雪橇外出撿柴。
After he had gathered it together,and packed it,
他將柴火收集到一起，打成一捆，
he was so frozen with cold
這個時候的他已經(jīng)凍得瑟瑟發(fā)抖了。
that he decided to light a fire and warm himself a little.
于是他想生一堆火先讓自己暖和暖和。
So he scraped away the snow,and as he was clearing the ground,
于是他將雪扒開，當(dāng)他正在清掃地面時，
he found a tiny golden key.
發(fā)現(xiàn)了一把小小的金鑰匙。
He thought that where the key was,there must also be a lock,
他馬上想到，在有鑰匙的地方，一定會有鎖。
and dug in the ground and found an iron chest.
于是他掘下去，在地里發(fā)現(xiàn)了一個鐵箱子。
If only the key fits!
要是鑰匙配上鎖就好了!
He thought;no doubt there are precious things in that little box.
他這樣想著，這只小小的箱子里準(zhǔn)有寶貝。
He searched,but could find no keyhole.At last he discovered one,
他到處找鎖眼，但找不到，最后他終于發(fā)現(xiàn)了，
but so small that it was hardly visible.
但小得幾乎看不見。
He tried it,and the key fit perfectly. Then he turned the key,
他試了試，鑰匙恰好對上。他立刻將鑰匙轉(zhuǎn)了一圈。
and now we must wait until he has unlocked it and opened the lid,
現(xiàn)在我們須等待他將鎖打開，掀起箱蓋，
and then we will learn what wonderful things were lying in that box.
這時候我們到大家就會知道箱子里藏著什么奇妙的東西了。

The Sick Lion
病獅
A lion,no longer able,from the weakness of old age,
一頭年老體弱的獅子，沒有力氣去
to hunt for his prey laid himself up in his den,
自行覓食，只好躺在洞穴里;
and breathing with great difficulty,
他呼吸困難，
and speaking with a low voice,said that he was very ill.
說話有氣無力，一臉病入膏肓的樣子。
The report soon spread among the beasts,
這個消息很快在獸群之間傳開了，
and there was great lamentation for the sick lion.
大家都為病獅哀傷不已。
One after another came to see him;
他們一個接一個地來探望他;
but,catching him thus alone,and in his own den,
哪知道這頭獅子就這樣待在自己的洞里，
the lion made an easy prey of them, and grew fat upon his diet.
輕而易舉地把探望者一個個捉住吃掉，把自己養(yǎng)得胖胖的。
The fox,suspecting the truth of the matter,
狐貍對這件是有點(diǎn)懷疑
came at length to make his visit of inquiry,
最后也來看個究竟。
and standing at some distance,asked his Majesty how he did?
他站得遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)的恭問萬獸之王安好。
"Ah,my dearest friend,"said the lion,
獅子道:"啊，我最親愛的朋友，
"Is it you?Why do you stand so far from me?
是你呀!為什么站得那么遠(yuǎn)?
Come,sweet friend, and pour a word of consolation in the poor lion's ear,
來，好朋友，在我這可憐的獅子耳邊說句安慰的話吧，
who has but a short time to live."
我快不行啦。"
"Bless you!"said the fox."But excuse me if I cannot stay;
"愿上帝保佑你!"狐貍說:"但請?jiān)?，我不能久留?/p>
for to tell you the truth,
老實(shí)說，
I feel quite uneasy at the mark of he foot-steps that I see here,
我感到十分不安。我看到這里許多腳印
all printing towards your den,and none returning outwards."
都是只向府上走進(jìn)來，沒有一個是走出來的哩!"

The Lion and the Mouse
獅子和老鼠
A lion was awakened from sleep by a mouse running over his face.
獅子躺在草地上睡覺，一只老鼠跑來，在它的身邊繞來繞去，把它吵醒了。
Rising up in anger, he caught the mouse and was about to kill him
獅子很生氣，一把抓住老鼠，打算把它殺死。
when the mouse piteously entreated, saying,
老鼠渾身發(fā)抖，結(jié)結(jié)巴巴地哀求:
"If you would only spare my life, I would be sure to repay your kindness"
"獅......子大王，求求你......放了我吧，日后......我一定會報(bào)答......你的。"
The lion laughed and let him go.
獅子覺得好笑，于是放了它。
It happened shortly after this that the lion was caught by some hunters,
幾天后，獅子被獵人抓住，
who bound him by strong ropes to the ground.
被繩子綁著躺在地上動彈不得。
The mouse,recognizing his roar,came up,
老鼠聽到它的吼叫聲，悄悄地爬到獅子身上，
and gnawed the rope with his teeth,and set him free,and exclaimed,
用牙齒把繩子咬斷救了它，并感嘆道:
"You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you,
"你曾嘲笑過我，以為你我不能幫助你，
not expecting to receive from me any repayment of your favor;
也沒想過有朝一日能得到回報(bào)，
but now you know
但現(xiàn)在你明白了
that it is possible for even a mouse to confer benefits on a lion."
即使是無用的小老鼠，也可能救獅子一命。"
