A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carriedacross his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect andalways delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to themaster's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For two years this went on daily, with thewater bearer delivering one and one-half pots full of water to his masters house.
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it wasmade. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that itwas able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what ithad perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke one day to the water bearer by the stream.
"I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you."
"Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?"
"I have been able for these last two years to deliver only half my load, because this crack in myside causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, youhave to do all this work, and you do not get full value for your efforts," the pot explained.
The water bearer felt sorry for the cracked pot, and in his compassion, he said, "As we returnto the masters house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path."
Indeed, as they went up the hill, the cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautifulwild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But, at the end of the trail, it stillfelt bad because it had still leaked half of its load, and so again the pot apologized to the bearerfor its failure. The bearer said to the pot: "Did you notice that there were flowers only on yourside of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That is because I have always known aboutyour flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, andevery day while we walk back from the stream, you have watered them. For two years I havebeen able to pick those beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table. Without you being justthe way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house."
Each of us has our own unique flaws. We are all cracked pots. But if we will allow it, the Lordwill use our flaws to grace His Father's table. In God's great economy, nothing goes to waste.Don't be ashamed of your flaws.Acknowledge them, and you too can be the cause of beauty.Know that in our weakness we find our strength.
The sun is just rising in the morning of another day. What can I wish that this day may bring me?Nothing that shall make the world or others poorer, nothing at the expense of other men; butjust those few things which in their coming do not stop me but touch me rather, as they passand gather strength.
I wish that this day could bring me a few friends, who understand me, and yet remain myfriends; I also wish that this day could bring me a work to do which has real value.
I wish that this day could bring me a mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be notblazed, and I wish that this day could bring me an understanding heart.
I wish that this day could bring me a sight of the eternal hills, and the blue sea stretching tothe horizon, and of something beautiful which the hands of men have made.
I wish that this day could bring me a sense of humor, and the power to laugh, a little leisurewith nothing to do.
And I crave for a few moments of quiet, silent meditation in the morning of this day.
You’re listening to Faith Radio Online-Simply to Relax, I’m Faith. I also wish that this day couldbring me the patience to wait for the coming of these things, with the wisdom to know themwhen they come, and the wit not to change this morning wish of mine.
