  Will E-books Replace Traditional Books?

There is no denying the fact that e-books have been gaining increasing popularity in the past years along with the development of information technology. People are often heard to talk about e-books written by such famous writers as Hanhan or Mu Zimei. Actually, modern readers seem to spend more time on e-books than on traditional ones.

As a consequence, it has emerged as a hotly debated topic whether e-books will take the place of traditional books in the future. Some hold the positive view. They claim that it is convenient to read on line as modern people have easy access to the Internet while having less and less time to frequent the bookstore.Besides, reading e-books saves money.

Personally, I believe that e-books cannot be a substitute for all traditional books. Although the former are more convenient and less expensive, they cannot compete with the latter in at least the following aspects. First, you can take a traditional book anywhere and read it anytime but you cannot always have access to the Internet. Secondly, a truly valuable book deserves a paper version for your computer may have the risk of breaking down. Last but not least, for many people, only the smell of print and the feel of paper can provide the true sense of reading and learning.

  Digital Age

Nowadays with the rapid development of advanced digital technology, more and more digital products are commonly and widely used in everyday life, ranging from computers and MP4s to mobile telephones and digital cameras. We are indeed coming into the digital age. 2.

The popularity of digital products will have great influence on our work, study and everyday life. On the one hand, the digital products really facilitate our life. With the help of computers, we may even deal with our work at home, enjoying music at the same time. With digital cameras, we may take photos to our hearts’ content, keeping happy occasions as a permanent memory. With digital TV programs, it is convenient for us to watch whatever programs at any time we like. But on the other hand, some people are becoming too dependent on digital products and almost

becoming slaves of advanced technology. Nowadays some students even can’t calm down to study without wearing their MP4s and mobile phones at hand. What a terrible scene! 3.

To conclude, digital products are just like a double-edged sword. With them we may have less trouble dealing with problems in life and enjoy a better-off life. However, one point should be kept in mind that we should take sensible use of them, always being the master of them.

Should one expect a reward when doing a good deed

When asked about whether or not one should expect a reward when doing a good deed, different people hold different views. Some argue that there should be a reward for a good deed. They explain that without proper and proportionate reward, those who have done good deeds may sometimes find themselves in various dilemmas. For example, in order to help the needed, they often have to sacrifice a large part of their own income and even get lost of the days in poverty.

However, others counter that we should learn from Lei Feng to help others, without ever asking for any reward. According to them, helping others is, in fact, an indispensable part of our virtues, so we are obligated to help those in trouble. Besides, if we can all help each other, we can also do our bits to build up a harmonious society.

As for me, it' s neither good nor bad to expect a reward when doing a good deed. What really matters is that we should, first of all, take the initiative to help, instead of clinging to the worldly principle that "no reward, no offer" .

The Importance of Reading Classics

As we all know, books, especially the classical, present the precious accumulation of wisdom and knowledge beyond the limitation of time or space, from which we can enjoy numerous anecdotes, get to know exotic culture and tradition, experience the legendary and miraculous life of our idols and make ourselves better men day by day.

Nevertheless, people, especially the young, seem to have stored those classical books merely on the shelf for an unbelievably long time, which can be attributed to various factors. On the one hand, modern people have to cope with the quick pace and unavoidable stress of their work or life; therefore, they can hardly devote time to reading books. On the other hand, people tend to be more material-oriented involving their social status, amount of wealth or prospects of getting promotion, which eclipse the important benefits from reading classical books.

To me, it is essential for most undergraduates to read certain classical books, especially ones filled with life-long motivation and sagacious thoughts, which may not guarantee them short-term returns but will bring them far-reaching reward.

The Celebration of Western Festivals

Western festivals are very popular in China, which has aroused great concern among the people around us. Nowadays, many Chinese people, especially youngsters, are paying as much attention to some western festivals as our Spring Festival, that is to say, more and more Chinese like to celebrate western festivals. Taking a look around, you can find too numerous examples to mention individually, and the best one may be Christmas Eve celebrated on December 24th. In addition, other western festivals, like April Fool’s Day and Valentine’s Day, are very popular among the Chinese, especially young people.

There are many different factors deciding this phenomenon. Above all, we can clearly see that more and more young age groups are exposed to western culture and festivals through learning English. What’s more, some western festivals provide relaxing and comfortable

atmospheres, which attract a large number of Chinese youngsters. Besides, many businessmen view foreign festivals a golden opportunity to make money, who desperately try to boost the atmosphere of foreign festivals. It is far beyond any reasonable doubt that these western festivals now have much wider appeal among the Chinese people.
