經(jīng)典民間故事:齊宣王開弓
King Xuan of the state of Qi was fond of archery, and he liked to hear others' flattery on his ability to stretch tight bows.
The tensile strength of his bows was only three shi. But every time he asked his attendants to try his bows, these men pulled the bow half open and pretended that they could not stretch any more. They declared in chorus that nobody without more than nine shi of strength could stretch it open, and only Your Majesty could it, because you are so mighty.
King Xuan never doubted their words till his death.
齊宣王愛好射箭,又喜歡聽別人奉承自己能夠開硬弓。
他用的弓只有三石的強(qiáng)度,而每次他讓左右隨從試用他的弓時(shí),這些人拉開一半就裝做拉不動(dòng),并異口同聲地宣稱這弓沒有九石以上的力氣是拉不開的,大王具有這般神力,這弓也只配大王用。
齊宣王至死,都相信自己的弓是九石。
經(jīng)典民間故事:夸父追日
Kua Fu tried his best to chase the sun. When he arrived at the place where the sun set, he had to turned around, as he could not bear the thirst, and came to the Yellow River and the Wei River.
In one breath, he quaffed up all the water in both rivers. Though he drank up two rivers, he still felt thirsty, and he decided to go to the large lake in the north for a good drink. On the way to the north, Kua Fu eventually died of thirst.
The walking stick thrown down by him, being nurtured by the nourishment converted from his dead body, unexpectedly bloomed and fructified, and it grew into peach woods, which stretched for thousands of miles.
夸父竭盡全力追趕太陽。當(dāng)他追趕太陽降落的地方時(shí), 由于忍受不了干渴,只好掉轉(zhuǎn)頭,回到黃河、渭河所在的地方,一口氣便將這兩條河里的水喝得精光。
雖然喝光了兩條大河,但夸父還是感到不解渴,又打算到北方的大湖里去痛飲一番。北去的途中,夸父終因干渴而死。
扔下的手杖,被他的尸體所化成的養(yǎng)料滋潤,竟然開花結(jié)果,長成一片連綿千里的桃林。
經(jīng)典民間故事:薛譚學(xué)謳
Xue Tan studied singing from the celebrated singer Qin Qing, before long, he thought he had mastered almost all the skills and techniques taught by the teacher, and said goodbye to the teacher and headed for home.
Qin Qing gave a farewell dinner by the road outside the city for the student. During the dinner, Qin Qing sang a sorrowful farewell song to the rhythm of the music. The song was so magnificent and solemn, stirring and penetrating that the clouds in the sky were hold up by it. Hearing the dulcet voice that he had never heard before,.
Xue Tan apologized to his teacher immediately, and pleaded his master to let him stay there to continue his study. From then on, Xue Tan never mentioned the intention to go back home all his life.
薛譚向著名的歌唱家秦青學(xué)習(xí)唱歌。不久,薛譚認(rèn)為自己差不多完全掌握了老師傳授的技能,便告辭回家。
秦青在城外的大路旁為學(xué)生踐行,酒宴中,秦青和著樂曲的節(jié)拍,唱起悲切的送行歌來。歌聲慷慨悲壯,穿云裂石,連天空中的云彩也被這聲音所阻擋不能前進(jìn)。
聽到這聞所未聞的美妙歌喉,薛譚連忙向秦青道歉,請求老師留下自己繼續(xù)學(xué)習(xí)。至此之后,薛譚一輩子都不再提回家的事了。
