伊索寓言英語故事：生金蛋的鵝
One morning a countryman went to his goose's nest, and saw a yellow and glittering egg there.
He took the egg home. To his delight, he found that it was an egg of pure gold.
Every morning the same thing occurred, and he soon became rich by selling his eggs.
The countryman became more and more greedy. He wanted to get all the gold at once, so he killed the goose, when he looked inside, he found nothing in its body.
●一天早晨，一位農(nóng)夫發(fā)現(xiàn)自家的鵝窩中有一只金燦燦的蛋。
●他將蛋帶回家，驚喜地發(fā)現(xiàn)這是一個金蛋。
●此后，農(nóng)夫每天都能得到一個金蛋。從此，他靠賣他的金蛋變得富有起來。
●農(nóng)夫變得越來越貪婪，他想一下子得到鵝肚子中所有的金蛋。于是他殺死了鵝，但是，鵝肚子中什么也沒有。
寓意: 如果不懂得知足，貪得無厭，我們就會失去已經(jīng)擁有的東西。

An old man was gathering sticks in a forest.
At last he grew very tired and hopeless. He threw down all the sticks and cried out, "I cannot bear this life any longer. Ah, I wish Death would come and take me!"
As he spoke, Death appeared, and said to him, "What would you do, old man? I heard you call me."
"Please, sir," replied the old man, "would you help me lift this bundle of sticks up to my shoulder?"
●有個老人在森林中砍了不少柴，十分吃力地挑著走了很遠的路。
●一路上他累極了，實在挑不動了，便扔下柴擔，叫喊起來：“這種日子我受不了了，死神啊，帶我走吧。”
●這時，死神來了，對他說：“老頭，你想做什么，我聽見你叫我?”
●“先生，”老人說，“您能幫忙將那擔子放在我的肩上嗎?”

A middle-aged man had two wives. One was old, and the other was young. They both loved him very much.
Now the man's hair was turning grey. The young wife felt unhappy about this because it made him look too old.
So every night she used to comb his hair and pick out the white ones.
But the elder wife was glad to see her husband growing grey, for she did not want to be mistaken for his mother. So every morning she used to comb his hair and pick out the black ones.
The consequence was the man soon found himself entirely bald.
●一個中年男人有兩個妻子，一個年輕，一個年老，她們都非常地愛他。
●當男人的頭發(fā)漸漸變得灰白時，年輕太太感到很不高興，因為這使他看起來顯得很老。于是，她每晚幫他梳頭時都拔去一些白發(fā)。
●但是，年老的太太很高興他的男人變老，因為這樣自己就不會被錯認為是他的媽媽了。于是，每天早晨幫他梳頭時都拔去一些黑發(fā)。
●結(jié)果，不久后男人發(fā)現(xiàn)自己變成了禿子。
寓意: 遇到壓力的時候，我們不能一味地退讓，否則很快會無處可退。
