袋鼠與籠子
(Kangaroos and the Cage)
One day the staff members of a zoo called a meeting to discuss the problem--how to deal with the kangaroos that were found out of the cage. They came to the conclusion that the cage was placed too low and decided to raise it from one to two meters high. But the next day the kangaroos were still at large and they again raised the cage to three meters.
有一天,動(dòng)物園的管理員們發(fā)現(xiàn)袋鼠從籠子里跑出來(lái)了, 于是開(kāi)會(huì)討論,一致認(rèn)為是籠子的高度過(guò)低,所以他們決定將籠子的高度由原來(lái)的1米加高到2米。結(jié)果第二天他們發(fā)現(xiàn),袋鼠還是跑到外面來(lái),所以他們又決定再將高度加高到3米。
Quite beyond their expectation the next morning they saw the kangaroos still free to go about. They were alarmed and determined to go to all the length by raising the cage to the height of ten meters.
沒(méi)想到隔天居然又看到袋鼠全跑到外面,于是管理 員們大為緊張,決定一不做二不休,將籠子的高度加高到10米。
Later a giraffe, while chatting with some kangaroos, asked them, “Do you think they will go on raising your cage?”
一天,長(zhǎng)頸鹿和幾只袋鼠在閑聊,“你們看,這些人 會(huì)不會(huì)再繼續(xù)加高你們的籠子?”長(zhǎng)頸鹿問(wèn)。
“Hard to say,” said a kangaroo, “if they continue forgetting to fasten the cage door.”
“很難說(shuō)。”袋鼠說(shuō),“如果他們?cè)倮^續(xù)忘記關(guān)門(mén)的話!”

Two guys were walking through the jungle. All of a sudden, a tiger appears from a distance, running towards them. One of the guys takes out a pair of "Nikes" from his bag and starts to put them on. The other guy with a surprised look and exclaims, "Do you think you will run faster than the tiger with those?" His friend replies: "I don't have to out run it, I just have to run faster than you."

野鴨獵人的狗
An avid duck hunter was in the market for a new bird dog. His search ended when he found a dog that could actually walk on water to retrieve a duck. Shocked by his find, he was sure none of his friends would believe him.
一位貪婪的鴨子獵手想在市場(chǎng)上買(mǎi)只新的捕鳥(niǎo)的狗。當(dāng)看見(jiàn)一只狗能在水上走路然后抓住鴨子時(shí),他決定:就是它了。這實(shí)在是太新奇了,他覺(jué)得應(yīng)該沒(méi)有哪個(gè)朋友會(huì)相信他吧。
He decided to try to break the news to his most skeptical friend, inviting him to hunt with him and his new dog. As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flew by; they fired, and a duck fell.
他首先向一個(gè)最容易懷疑的朋友發(fā)布了這個(gè)消息,帶上狗邀請(qǐng)這位朋友和他一同打獵。他們?cè)诤影哆叺却?,突然一群鴨子飛過(guò),他們開(kāi)槍了,于是有一只野鴨掉了下來(lái)。
The dog responded. It did not sink, but instead walked across the water to retrieve the bird, never getting more than his paws wet.

The friend saw everything but did not say a single word.

On the drive home the hunter finally broke the silence, asking, “Well, what do you think of my new dog?”
回家的時(shí)候,獵人打破了沉默,問(wèn)道:“你覺(jué)得這只狗怎么樣啊?”
The other guy was quiet for a moment, then said, “Can’t swim, huh?”
朋友沉默了一會(huì),說(shuō)道:“它不會(huì)游泳,對(duì)吧?”
