After hearing that sixteen women committed suicide when her son, Gongpu Wenbo, who was a high official in the state of Lu had died, the mother did not shed a single drop of tear.
She said, "My son was not a good man. when Confucius was dispelled from Lu, he did not follow him to seek truth. Now he is dead, and there were sixteen women who committed suicide for him. So it is obvious that he treated elder people harshly while he was very lenient to women. So I would not consider him to be my son at all."

A self-important lion in the jungle tried to make his mastery clear to all.
He was so confident that he paid no attention to the smaller animals and went right up to a bear. He asked the bear, "Who is the king of the jungle?" The bear replied, "Of course you are."
Then the lion asked a tiger the same question. The tiger replied with some reluctance, "Of course you are." And then he went to ask an elephant. But the elephant would not allow the lion to do so. He suddenly took hold of the lion with his long nose and bounced the lion against a tree, leaving him bleeding and badly shaken up.
When the lion finally got up, he blamed the elephant and said: "Even if you couldn't answer my question, it's not necessary for you to act so rough."

A man was about to go away on a long journey. He told his servant, "You keep an eye on the gate and look after the donkey."
After the master had left, the servant heard someone playing music in the neighborhood. Unable to restrain himself, he wanted to go there and listen. Feeling ill at ease, he roped the gate onto the donkey's back and made it carry the gate all the way to the site of the show.
With the servant gone, all the valuables in the house were stolen by thieves. When the master returned he asked, "Where are my valuables?" The servant replied, "Master, you only told me to keep on the gate and the donkey with the leash. Apart from them, l know nothing of the whereabouts of your things."
The master declared, "l left you here to guard the gate precisely for the sake of looking after my valuables. With all my valuables gone, what is the good of having a gate?"
有一個(gè)人即將要出門(mén)遠(yuǎn)行，他吩咐仆人說(shuō)：“你好好守著門(mén)，并且看管住大門(mén)和驢子。”
主人出門(mén)后，正好這時(shí)有鄰里人家在奏樂(lè)，這個(gè)仆人很想去聽(tīng)，不能安心地看守房子。于是他便用繩索把門(mén)系在驢背上，趕著驢來(lái)到奏樂(lè)的地方，去聽(tīng)音樂(lè)演奏。
這個(gè)仆人離開(kāi)之后，主人家中的財(cái)務(wù)全都被賊偷去了。主人回來(lái)，問(wèn)這個(gè)仆人說(shuō)：“財(cái)寶到哪兒去了?”仆人便回答說(shuō)：“主人您先前吩咐我看守門(mén)和驢子。除了這些東西之外，我就什么也不知道了。”
主人又說(shuō)：“我留你守門(mén)，正是為了看住財(cái)物。財(cái)物既然已經(jīng)丟失了，還要門(mén)做什么用呢?”
