Power Hungry is a collaboration between photographer Henry Hargreaves and food stylist Cailin Levin, and juxtaposes meals enjoyed by the top one per cent under 'authoritarian regimes throughout history' with the meager daily dishes consumed by the lower classes.

“We want people to literally and figuratively sit down and look across a table to see the glaring disparities between the 'haves and have-nots',”Mr Hargreaves states, having photographed staged table-tops from Ancient Egypt and Rome to current-day meals eaten in North Korea, Syria and the U.S.

Let them eat cake: In 18th Century France, before the revolution, an unskilled laborer in 1789 could expect to spend 97per cent of his wages on bread, due to harvest shortages (left). Meanwhile, monarchs dined on delicacies including sugared fruit, champagne and pastries (right).

1.When helping a woman pull her chair to the table, hold it and guide it. Don't shove it againstthe back of her legs.
2.If you're seated at a table with eight or fewer guests, wait for everyone to be served and forthe hostess to begin eating before you dig in. At a long banquet table, it's OK to start whenseveral people are seated and served.
