　　17. brush off 不理;默視

　　A: Have you talked to Mr. Lambert about Ian's obscene speechtowards you?

　　A: 你跟 Lambert 先生提過(guò) Ian 對(duì)你講的猥褻的話(huà)嗎?

　　B: Yes, but he brushed it off as if it were not a big deal tohim。

　　B: 有! 但他輕輕帶過(guò)(不理)， 好象他覺(jué)得那并沒(méi)有什么!

　　"brush away(aside)" 也是“不理”的意思。如"He brushed aside ourobjection."(他無(wú)視我們的反對(duì))。

　　趙晴注： 類(lèi)似的說(shuō)法還有， this is a serious mistake. you shouldn't justshrug it off like that。

　　B: I don't know, but you can kiss my ass。

　　B: 不知道， 不過(guò)你可以親我的屁屁(巴結(jié)我)。

　　趙晴注： Kiss somebody's ass 是拍馬屁的意思， 但是在這句話(huà)里的意思是"你就做夢(mèng)去吧",也就是"你去死吧". 馬屁精顯然就是ass kisser

　　3. XYZ 檢查你的拉鏈

　　Hey, man. XYZ。

　　老兄啊! 檢查一下你的拉煉吧。

　　"XYZ" 是 "Check your zipper." 的意思。在美國(guó)，填表選項(xiàng)時(shí)多用打“X”來(lái)表示(臺(tái)灣則用打勾表示)。這個(gè)選項(xiàng)的動(dòng)作就叫"Check", 也就是這里的XYZ 的 X所代表的。Y 是Your, Z 就是 Zipper 啰!

　　4. Hit the road. 上路了

　　A: Do you want to come in for some tea?

　　A: 你要不要進(jìn)來(lái)喝個(gè)茶呢?

　　B: No. I'm running late. I really need to hit the road。

　　B: 不了。我快遲到了， 得上路了。

　　"running late" 是快遲到了的意思。

　　"Hit the road" 的 "hit" 有“去”的意思。好比某人每周去健身房三次， 你就可以說(shuō) "He hitsthe gym three times a week."。

　　"I really need to hit the road." 還可以用說(shuō)成"I really need to getgoing."。

　　5. hang out 和朋友在一起

　　A: I don't know what is going on lately. Jack seems to curse alot these days。

　　A: 不知道最近 Jack 怎么搞的。 他經(jīng)?？诔鰫貉浴?/p>

　　B: Well, that's just what you get from hanging out with thewrong crowd。

　　B: 嗯， 交錯(cuò)了朋友就是這樣啊!

　　"hang out" 是和朋友一起做一些事。看電影、逛街、聊天都算。也不限指異性朋友。

　　趙晴注： 你可以問(wèn)你的朋友， Hey, what did you guys do this weekend。你的朋友可以說(shuō)， well, nothing special. we just hung out. 這個(gè)意思就是， 也沒(méi)干什么，就是呆著。

　　6. click (兩人)合得來(lái)

　　I really like talking to her. I think we two really click。

　　我很喜歡和她說(shuō)話(huà)。我覺(jué)得我們兩個(gè)蠻合得來(lái)的。

　　好玩的字吧! 不過(guò) click 不一定只用在異性之間。朋友之間的頻率相同也可以用。

　　趙晴注： 當(dāng)兩個(gè)人不click的時(shí)候， 你通?？梢哉f(shuō)， I don't know...but the chemistrydoesn't seem right. chemistry 這里指的是兩個(gè)人不來(lái)電， 指同性異性都可以。

　　7. suck 差勁 ; 糟透了

　　A: Guess what? We've just now missed the bus, and the next onewon't come for another 45 minutes。

　　A: 知道嗎? 我們剛好錯(cuò)過(guò)公車(chē)了; 下一班(車(chē))還要四十五分鐘才會(huì)來(lái)。

　　B: That sucks。

　　B: 真遜!

　　"suck" 是“差勁”的意思。 "That movie sucks." 是“那部電影真是糟透了”的意思。

　　趙晴注： 倒霉東西當(dāng)然就是sucker.。.你可以說(shuō) these files are a mess! it is gonnatake forever to sort out these suckers. sucker通常不指人。

　　8. catch some Zs 小睡一下

　　A: Excuse me. I have to catch some Zs。

　　A: 抱歉! 我想小睡一下。

　　B: I thought you just woke up. Sleepy head。

　　B: 我以為你才剛睡醒。愛(ài)睡蟲(chóng)。

　　漫畫(huà)里 的人睡覺(jué)， 不是都畫(huà)"Z,Z,Z..."來(lái)表示嗎? 這里的"catch some Zs" 就是這樣來(lái)的。"I have to catch some Zs." 也可以說(shuō)"I have totake a nap." 或 "I need to snooze."。

　　"dump" 是“丟掉”的意思， “丟”什么不必我解釋了吧?

　　趙晴注： dump也有垃圾堆的意思. 你可以說(shuō)， I can't believe you actually livehere! It is a dump! --你住的地方真爛. 但是， take a dump是一種比較粗俗的說(shuō)法， 一般男性多用。通常大家會(huì)說(shuō) #1 或者 #2, 跟我們的說(shuō)法一樣。

　　想去上廁所， 你可以說(shuō)， mother nature is calling?；蛘哒f(shuō)的文雅一點(diǎn)--I am going touse the facility. facility 這里指的就是restroom. 在別人家里， 你通常會(huì)問(wèn)， may I usethe bathroom? bathroom這里就是廁所的意思
