Lesson 8 Introducing oneself to a new colleague
【Situation
梢允褂靡恍┒Y貌用語,如:"Pleased to meet you". (美國英語中,通常用"Nice to meet you" )。
而“Have you been……?” I've been to Spain, though." 這時,護士2接著問:“Where did you go?”
【Dialogue 對話】
A: Good morning, have you just joined us?
B: Yes, it's my first day. I've just arrived-not late, am I?
A: No, of course not. Pleased to meet you. My name is Eileen-what's yours?
B: Rosario-from Spain. Nice to meet you.
A: Spain, eh? Lovely. What part of Spain?
B: Madrid. The big city.
A: It's the capital, isn't it?
B: Won't you miss it, oming to a little place like this out in the sticks? No-I'm glad to get away. You can get tired of big cities, you know-all those people, all the traffic, the rush hour. I could have gone to London instead of here, but I didn't want to-not just yet.
A: No, I suppose not. I don't London, myself.
B: Have you ever been, you know-to Madrid?
A: No, never. I've been to Spain, though. On holiday with my boyfriend.
B: Where did you go?
A: One of the Costas, I think it was. Sitges, was it? About three or four years ago,…… was really wonderful-we had a great time.
B: Whatever has made you come to somewhere like this, when you've got Sitges and places like that to work in?
A: Well, I want to see the world a bit while I'm still young. Plus, I'd like to learn some English-and get some professional hospital experience. This is my first proper post.
B: Well, you'll get plenty of experience in this job. We're very busy-all the time. Permanently. Rushed off our feet, sometimes.
A: Good, I like to be busy.
B: You will love it here, then. Where did you train?
A: In madrid. At the Nursing College and then at the Santa Maria Hospital.

在會話中,“What can I do for you?” 的表達方式與“How can I help you?”
"I just don't seem to be making any progress at all"
I'm worse in fact. Let me ask you a few questions, just to see if we've missed something, or to see if you've left anything out."(我再問你幾個問題,看看我們遺漏了什么,還需要補充點什么。)

Patient: Yes, something like that. that's about how often I've been coming to see you. And I don't seem to be getting any better. I'm worse in fact. I just don't seem to be making any progress at all.
Doctor: That doesn't sound too good, does it? Let me ask you a few questions, just to see if we've missed something, or to see if you've left anything out.
